CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Federal and local authorities, in addition to hazmat crews, were called out to the scene of a drug raid in Chula Vista after agents found fentanyl and THC extraction on the property. The raid happened at a home on 2nd Avenue Wednesday afternoon. DEA officials confirmed the search warrant was part of an ongoing investigation. DEA agents arrested one man during their search, and he is suspected of mixing fentanyl with other illegal drugs, according to a DEA spokesperson. Agents did not identify the man or disclose the amount of drugs found. The hazardous materials teams were summoned to the scene to investigate any possible contamination in the neighborhood and to process the drugs that were discovered. 747

(KGTV) - A Chula Vista business specializing in hand-woven bags faced a logistics mess due to overtaxed delivery systems during the pandemic.Daisy Romero founded El Cholo's Bag back in 2008. It's a completely online business and in 2020 sales skyrocketed,"The e-commerce side just blew up," she said.The business is rooted in Mexican tradition, which is how she describes her bags, "very traditional Mexican bag, they’re made from recycled plastic. They’re the kind of bag our grandmothers used to use for the market."Many like the fact the bag is pandemic friendly."You can wash them, Lysol it, wipe it down with a Clorox wipe, it’s easy," she said.But, her small business hit a big shipping problem."At one point I just had dozens of lost packages, throughout the system and it didn’t matter if it was UPS or USPS, it didn’t matter. Everything was just so strained," says Romero. The shipping issue strained Romero's bottom line as well."It is a struggle, you know sometimes you’re in the negative because you had to refund three packages and you haven’t sold anything that day," she said solemnly.She learned from the challenges, insuring her business so the next time a package gets lost, she doesn't get burned.She's also working around the system, driving to San Diego customers."It’s easier to make sure your local customers get their product and it’s not going to be stuck in some distribution center even though it’s five miles away in Chula Vista," Romero said.As for her dreams, the pandemic put them on pause."My biggest goal for this year was to break into the European market and go to Paris and do all these things. 2020 was like, 'not today,'" she said.She hopes to bring her artisans' work to the world and share a bit of tradition. 1777

(KGTV) — New businesses are set to call the Otay Ranch Town Center home in the coming months. Just a few months ago, the mall had more than a dozen empty storefronts and employees at the mall called it a ghost town. The new businesses moving in include Novo Brazil Brewing, Planet Fitness, and Barons Market.LONGFORM: Vacant storefronts reflect mall struggles at Otay Ranch Town CenterBrookfield Property Partners took over full ownership of the mall six weeks ago. It was a part of a larger merger across the country. The mall's general manager, Steven Sayers, sat down with 10News."Nothing was going wrong with the property at all. It was just, some of it was just timing with expiring leases and unfortunately, some tenants just left," says Sayers.Sayers says these new businesses were already in the works before the merger. (KGTV) - Customers narrowly avoided being hit by an out-of-control truck that struck a Chula Vista bank Tuesday, sending cash flying.Four people were using the ATMs in a vestibule at the Chase bank at 1120 Broadway about 12 p.m. when the Dodge Ram truck crashed through the glass entryway.Three customers dodged the truck, which came dangerously close to Anna Gonzalez.“I’m shaking; I have a big angel with me,” said Gonzalez.Gonzalez had tried to use an ATM but when it didn’t work, she moved to another machine. The first machine was the one hit by the pickup. Three other customers in the vestibule dodged the truck.Irene Archuleta was cut by glass from the vestibule’s shattered windows.“Regular day, going to the ATM to withdraw some money. The next you know there was a truck right next to me,” said Archuleta. “Definitely an angel looking over us.”An elderly man was injured and taken to the hospital, along with two bank employees who were in another room and thrown from their desks upon impact.There was no immediate word on the severity of the injuries.The driver, who was not identified, was not injured, according to Chula Vista Fire Captain Francisco Soto.Chula Vista Police are looking into the cause of the crash.Firefighters said the crash did not damage a load bearing wall, making it possible for them to remove debris and return cash to the bank. 1399
