BEIJING, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Foreign-funded enterprises in China exported 494.4 billion U.S. dollars worth of machinery, electrical and electronic products in 2009.A document posted on the website of the General Administration of Customs (GAC) said the figure made up 69.3 percent of the country's total exports of such products in the past year.Exports of machinery, electrical and electronic products by privately-owned enterprises totalled 106.6 billion U.S. dollars in 2009, down 8.7 percent from a year earlier, according to the document.State-owned enterprises only exported 92.1 billion U.S. dollars worth of machinery, electrical and electronic products, accounting for 12.9 percent of the country's total machinery, electrical and electronic products last year.The GAC document also said the majority of the country's exports of machinery, electrical and electronic products fell into the category of processing and assembling trade.China's exports of machinery, electrical and electronic products in the category of processing and assembling trade totalled 466.4 billion U.S. dollars last year, making up 65.4 percent of the country's total exports of such products.The country exported 713.1 billion U.S. dollars worth of machinery, electrical and electronic products last year, down 13.4 percent year-on-year. The exports contributed 59.3 percent to China's total exports in 2009.The European Union (EU), the United States of America and Hong Kong were the three major destinations for the China mainland's exports of machinery, electrical and electronic products last year.China exported 1.2 trillion U.S. dollars worth of products last year, down 16 percent from 2008, replacing Germany as the world's largest exporter.

BEIJING, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, concluded its three-day session Friday, after approving the National Defense Mobilization Law and an amendment to the Copyright Law.President Hu Jintao signed decrees to publish the new Law and the amendment to the Copyright Law, which will take effect on July 1 and April 1 respectively.The concluding meeting was presided over by Wu Bangguo, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.The National Defense Mobilization Law "is significant for enhancing the country's national defense building, strengthening mobilization ability for national defense, as well as for safeguarding national security and ensuring economic and social development," Wu said.The top legislator warned of the "pressing task" of ensuring food safety, and called for improving the country's food safety supervision network.Final preparations were made during the bimonthly session for the upcoming 11th NPC annual session.The session was a very important meeting for expressing ideas about how the country could further develop, Wu said.He urged all the NPC Standing Committee members to listen to the opinions of NPC deputies who would attend the annual session, and fully respect their democratic rights.The Standing Committee approved the draft agenda of the upcoming annual session and a work report by the 11th NPC Standing Committee which is to be delivered by Wu at the session.The top legislature Friday appointed Wu Shuangzhan, Peng Xiaofeng, Liu Yongzhi, Liu Zhenwu, Ge Zhenfeng, and Fu Tinggui as vice chairpersons of six special committees under the NPC respectively.The Credentials Committee of the NPC Standing Committee examined the qualification of deputies to the 11th NPC. BEIJING, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- China's National People's Congress (NPC), the top legislature, on Saturday voiced strong protest against Washington's plan to sell a package of arms worth about 6.4 billion U.S. dollars to Taiwan, urging the U.S. side to immediately withdraw the wrong decision.The U.S. government announced the plan "in disregard of the strong opposition and repeated representations from the Chinese side," said a leading official of the NPC Foreign Affairs Committee."We are firmly opposed to that (the plan), and has lodged severe representations to the U.S. side," the official said.Such a move is gravely against the three joint communiques between China and the United States, especially the "Aug. 17" communique, in which the United States promised not to seek to carry out a long-term policy of arms sales to Taiwan, and intended to gradually reduce arms sales to the island.The plan endangers China's national security and efforts for peaceful reunification. It also harms Sino-U.S. relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. "The Chinese people are strongly indignant about it," the official said.The arms package would include 114 Patriot (PAC-3) anti-missile systems, 60 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, 12 Harpoon Block II Telemetry missiles, 2 Osprey Class mine hunting ships and a command and control enhancement system, according to a Pentagon website.
