You’ve probably noticed new electronic payment screens when purchasing coffee or other items at a counter. With the new systems, do customers end up tipping more?  An automatic tipping system called Toast says since 2017, quick service restaurants using their system have received tips on nearly 60 percent of credit card orders, compared to 28 percent previously.    "The basic idea is to make it very easy for you, very convenient for you, and create an expectation that this is a norm,” says Dr. Kevin Masters, a professor at CU Denver. “And this is what’s usually done."   Dr. Masters says the psychology behind the process is to cause stress for customers, which makes them tip no matter how much they decide.   "These ones where you are at a coffee shop or taxi places like that, you're given this automatic tip, especially if there is a line behind you there is a pressure," he says.   If you think you're the only one who feels awkward in this situation, you're not alone. Nathan, who works as a barista, says the feeling is mutual. But he does believe he gets tipped more with automatic tipping screens.    Dr. Master's says whether or not you tip, it's all psychological with the pressure you feel."Most of us, I think, would rather just get it over with,” he says. “So, if it costs me a few more cents on this cup of coffee, [no] big deal."    1427

at a hospital just north of Detroit.Officials with the Macomb County Health Department and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Service have identified seven possible cases of Legionnaires' disease at McLaren Macomb Hospital.Six of the potential cases have been reported since mid-September. The other person was sickened in July.Officials stress the investigation is ongoing and a source has not been identified. They say they plan to increase water testing in an atrempt to find the source of the bacteria."...we are responding with an abundance of caution and partnering with the Macomb County Health Department to identify targeted areas in the hospital to implement additional precautions to our water management efforts (installing filters, removing aerators, providing bottled water options)," the hospital's statement reads, in part. The hospital is also working to identify any other patients who may have been infected."We appreciate the County's partnership on this community health issue," McLaren Hospital CEO Tom Brisse said in a statement. "With nearly 100 cases of Legionella diagnosed across Macomb County over the past 12 months, this represents an opportunity and a need for the healthcare community, the Macomb County Health Department, and other key stakeholders to collaborate in order to minimize the health risk to our community."According to the health department, Legionnaire's disease is a respiratory infection caused by Legionella bacteria. The bacteria are found in fresh water supplies like cooling towers, hot tubs and other plumbing systems. Symptoms of the disease include fever, cough and radiologic findings consistent with pneumonia. This story was originally published by 1717

late Tuesday, spurring a massive response from area emergency and fire crews that continues into this morning.Authorities said one of the rickhouses, where barrels of bourbon are stored as they age, initially caught fire, eventually spreading to the other nearby structure. Crews at one point had the fire in the first barrel house put out, but it reignited, showing the difficulty of fighting a blaze fueled by both wood and alcohol. About 45,000 barrels of bourbon were burning in one of the structures, 509

after assaulting a protester outside of a Trump rally Thursday night. The brief confrontation — 29-year-old Dallas Frazier climbing out of a pickup and repeatedly punching 61-year-old protester Mike Alter in the head — was recorded and quickly posted to Facebook by fellow protester Scott Fantozzi. More than 1,600 people had shared the video by 10 p.m. ET. According to phone conversations and text messages with Alter, the protest against President Donald Trump’s campaign visit to Cincinnati had been peaceful until Frazier arrived. Alter and a group of other protesters had been standing across the street from the rally, occasionally exchanging shouts and chants with supporters on their way in to U.S. Bank Arena. 721

The mom of one of the victims was in court. Tori Morris said she's relieved someone was arrested. Her son, Erick Buchanan is recovering at home after getting shot in the jaw. "They're sick. There's no other way to put it. They need to be off the street cause whatever the situation is that caused him to react that way, I can't understand it, and there's no way I'll ever understand," said Morris. The prosecutor said the party was intended to be a small affair, but 469
