MONROVIA (CNS) - Monrovia-based Trader Joe's announced Thursday that 1,250 of its 53,000 employees nationwide tested positive for COVID-19 within the past eight months, with two deaths reported in which coronavirus was suspected of being a contributing factor.The neighborhood grocery store chain -- which has 514 stores in 42 states and Washington, D.C. -- said the rate of its workers who have been infected during the pandemic is about 2.4%."We believe that the results in virtually all areas are below the average rates of positive cases in each community where we have stores," Trader Joe's said in a statement which noted that 95% of the employees who tested positive and completed a quarantine period have recovered and chosen to return to work.The company said that 24% of its stores have had no positive COVID-19 cases reported among employees, with 83% of its stores having had zero to four cases reported among workers.No further information was released."The health and safety practices and procedures that have been put in place, and that continually evolve, have been effective because of the great work done by our crew members in every store, every day. NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) – A car crashed into a power pole in National City late Monday evening, killing a teen driver and leaving his female passenger trapped in the wreckage.The crash was reported at around 11 p.m. in the 2800 block of E 16th Street, according to National City police.Police believe the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his Cadillac sedan and veered into a pole.The driver died at the scene, and it took responding emergency crews over an hour to pull the unconscious passenger from the wreckage. She was transported to the hospital with severe head trauma and other life-threatening injuries.The driver and passenger are believed to be in their late teens.Several people who said they were family members of the victims arrived at the scene to talk to police.No other injuries were reported and no other vehicles were involved. 895

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A Nashville restaurant held a socially-distanced, drive-in comedy show on Wednesday.The show was at Daddy's Dogs location in The Nations. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the restaurant has held music concerts to bring more people to the shop."It was a big shift for us to go basically to a full restaurant, instead of doing our carts and going to the people, so we knew we had to do something to make some waves and make people know that we're here," Daddy's Dogs owner Sean Porter said.But on Wednesday night, the parking lot performance shifted gears from music to comedy."I'm really excited about this, it's a little different than what we've done in the past," Porter said. "As far as I know there really hasn't been a big drive-in comedy show so there's a first for everything!"A few dozen carloads of people poured into the restaurant's parking lot for the show, flashing their lights and honking for the lineup of local comedians to take the place of laughter."This is just something that's nice that lets people feel safe, they're in their own space, and give them an outlet to not think about whats going on in the world," Porter said. "I think it's just something everybody needs right now."The concert series at Daddy's Dogs runs through the end of October. Now, it wants to prove that it can sustainably fly around the planet's thin atmosphere at low altitude -- with a tiny helicopter.NASA announced Friday it will send the Mars Helicopter to the Red Planet with the previously announced Mars 2020 rover, set to launch in two years from Florida.The hope is that aircraft like this one -- flying mechanical scouts -- will eventually give scientists another vantage point from which to observe Mars.The helicopter will be mankind's first attempt to fly a heavier-than-air craft -- think helicopter or airplane -- in an atmosphere other than Earth's, the space agency said.Its mission will be to take five test flights after it lands with the rover in February 2021. 839
