(AP) — Southern California authorities say 18 pounds (8 kilograms) of fentanyl have been seized in Orange County — enough of the synthetic opioid to create four million lethal doses.The Orange County Register reports the seizure last week yielded almost half the amount of fentanyl seized by authorities in the county during all of 2018 — a sign the drug is quickly growing into a substantial public threat.Sheriff's officials say investigators served a search warrant and arrested 60-year-old Rudolph Garcia on multiple drug charges. (KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff's deputies are investigating a possible threat made against West Hills High School late Monday.In a letter to parents, West Hills Principal Robin Ballarin said staff was made aware of the threat Monday concerning a student remark that referenced a possible act of violence.The 15-year-old student has been identified, school officials say.No weapon or written threats were found in connection with the student, deputies said.The remark was reportedly made during class at 10:30 a.m., according to deputies, who called the comment "generic." SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- San Diego Fire-Rescue is on scene of a brush fire burning in San Ysidro Monday afternoon. According to department spokeswoman Mónica Mu?oz, the fire sparked near State Route 905 west and Caliente Avenue in an area near San Ysidro High School. The fire burned about one and a half acres before the forward rate of spread was stopped. No structures were threatened and no one was injured, according to Mu?oz.Three San Diego Fire-Rescue engines and two federal fire brush engines and a helicopter team responded to the blaze. (KGTV) -- A woman who escaped from the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee in early April pleaded not guilty Monday. 22-year-old Destiny Guns pleaded not guilty to six charges related to the escape. Guns was the first woman ever to escape from the Santee Jail, deputies say. Guns reportedly climbed over several fences and walls during the escape. Her clothes were found in an open field near the jail and police dogs traced her to the back of a shopping center before losing her trail. Guns was first arrested on April 1 for possession of a stolen car. She was recaptured on April 11. Details on where she was spotted are still unclear. 819

(KGTV) — U.S. Marines from Camp Pendleton joined troops at the U.S.-Mexico border in San Ysidro Thursday ahead of the potential arrival of a migrant caravan.About 1,100 Marines were deployed in support of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, according to 2nd Lt. Fredrick D. Walker, public affairs officer for Special Purpose Marine Ground Force Task 7.Specifically, Marines were working alongside 93rd Military Police Battalion soldiers from Fort Bliss, Texas, to harden fencing in the area to "make it less scalable," Walker said.10News live video from the border:The deployment is part of a larger effort to place troops at the southern U.S. border ahead of the expected arrival of a migrant caravan from Honduras.
