Businesses across the country that are taking part in the “Open to All” campaign are placing stickers on their store fronts to show customers they are inclusive.Voodoo Doughnuts in Colorado was one of the first businesses to take part in the initiative, and now, hundreds of others are signing up.The “Open to All” coalition, which includes over 1,200 businesses, believes no one should have to ever worry about whether they will be denied service.The campaign was sparked by an incident that happened at a Colorado cake shop back in 2012. The shop refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple because it didn't align with their religious beliefs. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court, where the ruling was in favor of the cake shop.Daniel Ramos with One Colorado, a non-profit organization for the LGBTQ community, says that ruling was a turning point."We know we have so much work to do to make sure people, regardless of their sexual orientation, regardless of their gender identity, have access to businesses that won't deny them, simply because who they are and who they love,” says Ramos.Ramos believes the “Open to All” campaign is good for all businesses. "Over the past number of years, we have seen businesses stand on the side of equality because they know equality means business,” Ramos says. “It’s good for them, for their companies, for their employees to feel safe, supported and welcome."A huge contributor for the movement is Yelp. When you open the app, it will tell you if a business is participating. Also, Lyft is another big company taking part.The coalition, along with One Colorado, believes that taking part in this movement, you are standing up for human rights. "Regardless of who you are or who you love, when you walk into a business, you should be served and that you are treated with dignity and respect," Ramos says. 1890

CAMPO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Cal Fire responded Saturday afternoon to a large fire burning near the border in Campo. According to the agency, the fire is raging near Forest Gate Road and Border Road.Although Southern California Air Operations tweeted around 11:45 a.m. that the fire "is now well established on the U.S. side," Cal Fire says the blaze never reached the U.S. Air Operations said it sent several aircraft to the fire, including two tankers and two helicopters, but around 1 p.m., all aircraft were released from the fire. The agency said the fire is burning in light flashy fuels with a rapid rate of spread. The blaze is estimated at 50 to 100 acres currently, Cal Fire reported. Cancer treatments can take a toll on the mind and body, leaving many patients feeling alone and isolated.Now, senior citizens fighting cancer, like Mary Hill, are able to escape their hospital rooms through virtual reality.By putting on a pair of goggles, Hill now spends her chemo appointments on stage at Red Rocks Amphitheater as an orchestra plays classical music all around her virtually, while in reality, she receives cancer treatments. “Wherever it is that they want to be that’s not a hospital room, we give them the opportunity to go there,” said Kyle Rand with Rendever, a company designed to reduce social isolation through shared experiences in virtual reality.Rendever is operating in more than 200 locations across the U.S. and Canada, serving seniors by offering them hundreds of virtual experiences to choose from.“The magical part about this is that they get to move from the hospital room that they’re in to all of a sudden being at the Red Rocks, or being standing on the Eiffel tower, or being in Brazil,” Rand said.Medical experts say this kind of distraction therapy is very helpful, especially during the COVID-19 crisis.“In the middle of this pandemic, a place that we’re not able to go to right now and enjoy and everyone loves Red Rocks,” said Nikki Caputo with UCHealth.She says adding VR for patients is somewhat challenging for an already busy staff, but that the benefits are well worth it.“From a mind, body and soul perspective, being able to put on a headset and take your mind to a completely different place, it's quite something,” she said.It's something patients like Hill say helps them escape during this pandemic and ultimately overcome depression and isolation.“With COVID, I don’t go anywhere,” she said. “I’m safe and secure and there’s an outside world that I can think about instead of myself.” 1848
