Cooled to negative 320 degrees, using liquid nitrogen cooled food has become a trendy and cool way of eating. But eating products so cold comes with risks. On Thursday, the FDA issued a warning for foods cooled by liquid nitrogen. The FDA says consuming products marketed as "Dragon’s Breath," "Heaven’s Breath," "nitro puff," among others could cause serious injury. Liquid nitrogen quickly freezes food, but even after the liquid has completely boiled into a gas, the extreme cold of the food and the displacement of oxygen could cause health concerns. "The FDA has become aware of severe -- and in some cases, life-threatening -- injuries, such as damage to skin and internal organs caused by liquid nitrogen still present in the food or drink," the FDA said in a statement. "There has also been a report of difficulty breathing after inhaling the vapor released by liquid nitrogen when added immediately before consumption. Injuries have occurred from handling or eating products prepared by adding liquid nitrogen immediately before consumption, even after the liquid nitrogen has fully evaporated due to the extremely low temperature of the food."The FDA's warning does not extend to all foods cooled by liquid nitrogen. "Other foods treated with liquid nitrogen prior to the point of sale and before consumption, for example some frozen confections, are treated in such a way that results in the complete evaporation of liquid nitrogen before reaching the consumer and are no longer at an extremely low temperature, and therefore do not pose a significant risk of injury," the FDA says. 1646

(KGTV) - A woman in City Heights said she discovered a power cord connected to her building’s utility box, leading into nearby Swan Canyon.After pulling it up, she said it was connected to a power strip and phone charger. She suspects it was being used by homeless people who live in the canyon.The woman did not want to be identified, saying the transients in the area have been aggressive at defending their campsites. She’s worried about the safety of her and her young children, who often like to walk on the trails.She believes the cord wasn’t there for more than a day, though she claims neighbors have also sighted people using the outlet to charge phones.She said she’s worried less about her electricity bill than the potential for the haphazard wiring to spark fires in the dry open space.Her husband, who works for the property manager, put a new lock on the utility closet though she suspects it won’t last long. CINCINNATI, Ohio — Body camera videos from the two police officers sent to investigate a 911 call from a teenager trapped inside a mini-van in a school parking lot don't show the officers exit their patrol car.The two videos show about three minutes of the search for Kyle Plush from two different perspectives. Police previously said the officers spent about 11 minutes searching. Plush's gold Honda Odyssey is not visible in the video.Plush, 16, called 911 twice on the afternoon of April 10. Officers Edsel Osborn and Brian Brazile, riding double as Unit 2232, responded to the school after his first call.Police said the officers didn't find anything, and received no answer when they tried calling Plush. The body camera videos, which police released Friday in response to a public records request, show the officers driving around a parking lot, but never getting out of their vehicle.The videos show the officers turn into the parking lot south of the Seven Hills School Resale Shop. Plush's van was parked in the lot north of the shop, on the same side of Red Bank Road. Congress has been unable to agree on a new stimulus package, and now, a key feature of the last package--the 0 enhanced unemployment benefit--has lapsed.“We definitely anticipate significant increases in the number of families and individuals that will begin to rely on emergency food programs more heavily as a result of the loss of this 0 additional benefit,” said Zanita Tisdale, who works with the Food Bank for New York City.The Food Bank for New York City has provided more than 30 million meals from March to April, just in New York. With many on unemployment losing almost two-thirds of their income now, there will be an even greater need in the city and beyond.“Our network of over 1,000 emergency food providers across 90 percent of the zip codes here in the city are really bracing themselves and making sure they are already bringing in enough resources,” Tisdale added.A study done by Feeding America shows 1 in 6 Americans could now struggle with hunger as a result of the financial hardships caused by the pandemic. That is 54 million Americans, 17 million more people since the start of the pandemic.“About 30 to 40 percent of estimated clients that are coming to food banks have never called a food bank before for help,” said Zuani Villarreal with Feeding America.“The deeper we get into this economic crisis and also taking into consideration that Congress is essentially late in passing new legislation, the more significant our economic challenges are going to be as a nation,” said Mark Hamrick, a senior economic analyst with Bankrate.com.Hamrick warns if Congress doesn’t act fast to end the lapse of enhanced benefits, not only will more people go hungry, but our economy will take a more troubling hit.“The deeper we get into this lack of action on the part of elected officials, the more it exacerbates the level of uncertainty that we have,’ said Hamrick. “I do believe, and I hope I am not overly optimistic, that both sides will come together.”Currently, the House’s idea for a second package, the HEROES Act, was passed in May. Councilmember Georgette Gomez is calling for the San Diego City Council to officially oppose construction of President Trump's "Border Wall." But, she says her opposition has nothing to do with her feelings about the President, or about the need for immigration reform.Gomez told 10News she thinks a wall would hurt San Diego's economy and environment."As leaders of the 8th largest city in the nation, to be silent on the wall is a disgrace," she says.Gomez will host a protest and rally in front of City Hall Tuesday, to bring community advocates together. It starts at 1 pm in the Civic Center Plaza.After that, she will ask the full City Council to vote on a resolution opposing the wall."It's important for the city of San Diego to stand up and protect our back yard," she says. "We need to tell Washington DC that this is not what we want or believe."Gomez says money spent on the wall would be better served to improve infrastructure to make crossing easier, improving the flow of traffic and helping San Diego become an even bigger hub for international commerce. That, she says, could add billions to the local economy."We already see it with the Cross Border Express," she says, referring to the pedestrian bridge built to the Tijuana airport. It lets travelers get across the border without having to go through the San Ysidro Point of Entry.In addition, she says the construction to widen and stream-line the Port of Entry is a good start, but more needs to be done."We should be investing in our infrastructure, but creating a wall does the opposite of what we're trying to achieve," says Gomez.In addition, she thinks construction on the wall could hurt the environment around the Tijuana River."Right now, if you want to go to the border, you can't drive down there. You have to park your car and walk," she says. "But if they build a wall, you need heavy equipment. So that's going to be brought in by vehicles and heavy machinery. They'll have to drive through sensitive habitat."Gomez says recent construction on the fence that currently exists was given a waiver so it didn't need an envioronmental impact review.
