SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego public figure is speaking out after being hit three times by distracted drivers over 8 years.Monica Zech is the Public Information Officer for the City of El Cajon. Her passion is public safety, specifically behind the wheel. She started as a Traffic Reporter in 1984 and had a 30-year career in broadcasting. She immediately found out, through reporting on first responders, how many crashes were preventable. "When my father was hit about eight years after that, when I started lecturing, then the DUI issue became prevalent," Zech said her father was walking across the street in a marked cross-walk when a drunk driver hit him in 1992.August 29th, 2011 a distracted driver ran a red light slamming into her. The crash was so violent surgeons told her she should've been paralyzed, "it was shocking to hear that. They said is this your MRI? Are you sure? I said I'm sure that's my MRI. They said well we're surprised you're sitting here, you should be paralyzed. We have patients with the same MRI and they're in a wheelchair."She now has a titanium plate that straightens her spine and protects her in case she is in a future crash.The next crash was in traffic on I-5, February of 2017. "I kept noticed his head bobbing down, looking down, I realized he was on his cell phone and wham! He hits me from behind," she said.Tuesday she was hit from behind again. This time she says she stopped at a red light about to turn onto I-8 Eastbound from La Mesa Boulevard. She said the other driver's airbags deployed, she pulled over and was extremely apologetic, saying "I was looking at my cellphone, I do Door Dash, and I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry." 10News has reached out to DoorDash for a comment and have not heard back.An excuse more common with a startling statistic from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. 1860

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A University City mother is looking for answers after her daughter was greeted with pornographic images on two consecutive days of remote learning.Chelsea Butler says it happened during her 14-year-old daugther's remote Physical Education class last Thursday morning. Her daughter is a freshman at University City High School."When she logged in, the screen was filled with pornography. It was being streamed during her Zoom call," said Butler.Butler says her stunned daughter quickly logged off and told her about it."Made her extremely uncomfortable. She was really upset by it," said Butler.Butler emailed the school and got a call back from the assistant principal, along with an email sent by the school. Both confirmed the Zoom bomb and an investigation by school police and the administration."The fact my daughter was exposed to it against her will is very upsetting," said Butler.The next day, her daughter tried to log in -- same time, same class -- only to be greeted by more pornographic images. This time, there were dozens of extra people in the room."They apparently got in by stealing students' screen names and changing them by one letter in order to access the classroom. Her screen name was one of the ones used. That's why she was even more upset," said Butler.The incidents is putting remote learning security under the microscope. Butler says right now, her daughter logs onto a password protected web portal to get her Zoom meeting ID.Her daughter enters a virtual waiting room, before the teacher invites her into the class. Butler isn't sure how, but says the precautions clearly must be enhanced.Across the country, numerous news reports have detailed similar Zoom bombs during remote learning involving pornography. Butler says her daughter won't be going back to that class until changes are made. So far, the school has excused the absences."A student just going to class every day should not have to be exposed to porn," said Butler.ABC 10News has reached out to San Diego Unified School District for a comment and are waiting to hear back. 2097

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego student has been named among those killed when an international flight bound for Ukraine crashed in Iran.Sara Saadat was a student at Alliant International University in Scripps Ranch. She was a passenger on Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752, according to the school.In a statement to 10News, Saadat was visiting family in Iran and was heading back to San Diego to begin the spring 2020 semester. She was enrolled in the university's clinical psychology program."We extend our deepest sympathies to family and friends of Alliant Student Sara Saadat. Sara was a passenger on Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752 that crashed in Iran. It appears that Sara was visiting family in Iran and was on her way back to San Diego to begin our spring 2020 term in our PsyD in Clinical Psychology program," the school's statement read. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An 86-year-old woman, with underlying health conditions and who had been vaccinated, is the latest flu death in San Diego.The San Diego woman died on Dec. 1 from influenza A and had been vaccinated this season, the County Health and Human Agency said. Officials did not specify what underlying conditions the woman had suffered.This flu season, seven San Diegans have died from the flu. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Aaron Juarez sat stone-faced as a public defender tried to convince a South Bay judge he's not a flight risk; especially not to Mexico. The deputy district attorney says Juarez, 20, is a gang member recently sentenced to probation on a firearms conviction. The judge ordered him held without bail for violating his probation, but he's wanted in Tijuana for allegedly murdering his stepmom.
