SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Less than a day after announcing that two students have contracted coronavirus, San Diego State University officials confirmed Thursday that two more students tested positive for the disease.Thursday's announcement raises the number of coronavirus cases on SDSU's campus to four since kicking off the fall semester this week.Officials said the two new cases are unrelated to the previous cases, and that the two students had only been to the campus to see testing at the Student Health Services. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- In an effort to help San Diego's homeless population, the City of San Diego is proposing a third storage facility the homeless can use to store their belongings. The city organized a town hall in July to gather input for the facility that would be placed on 54th and Lea Street.According to the San Diego Housing Commission, the facilities provide a "safe place for individuals who are experiencing homelessness to keep their belongings as they look for work, attend classes, or meet with a service provider or doctor."One of the centers, located on the 200 block of 16th Street, provides bins for more than 400 homeless individuals. Although the centers provide a service to San Diego's homeless population, some residents have made their opposition clear. Before one of the facilities opened in Sherman Heights, residents voiced their concerns. Neighbors told 10News they worried the facility would increase illegal activity and pose safety concerns in the area. To address concerns, security was placed inside the building as well as patrols sent out into the neighborhood. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Jessica Reilly, a Navy Air Traffic Controller currently based out of San Diego, has a high-stress job, but turns to her artistic side as an outlet. She combines her passion for the Navy with creating comics, adding a little bit of Dungeons and Dragons (which she learned from her husband) to create Gobbo the Goblin, a Navy sailor.“I have managed to breed a comic series for the Navy that is also targeted toward Dungeons and Dragons players,” she said, laughing.She said she’s loved art since she was a child, and started drawing her first comics on whiteboards while aboard Navy ships. It’s grown from there. She has a cartoon version of herself that goes on adventures with Gobbo. She said her real-life experiences combined with stories from other sailors motivate the storylines, frequently making fun of the daily woes of Navy life.“There is an outlet and a want for people to see comics kind of tongue and cheek of their own culture,” she said.She said this comedic relief is a good mental break from a tense job.“My job, even though it’s stressful, especially as an Air Traffic Controller, I can take a break, and I can remind everybody else that it’s not so stressful,” she said.Her art has turned into a family business. Her husband, who is a Navy veteran and currently in the Army reserves, writes comic books and she illustrates them. She said the first time they teamed up, they brought the comic books to a show and they sold out on the spot. Their company, Five Realms, was supposed to have a table at Comic-Con, which was canceled this year. To win a spot at the show, they had to submit their comic book, which was reviewed by judges. “It’s a huge accomplishment for me and my husband and unfortunately it didn’t happen,” she said, adding that they hope to be there next year.Jessica’s work has been noticed by the Navy. She’s been selected to do an Instagram takeover of the Navy’s “At the Helm” page during the week of October 25. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - In the wake of the Florida tragedy, the weapon used by the shooter - the AR-15 - is once again in the spotlight.RELATED: Florida shooting suspect to plead guiltyRolando resident Wendy Hauffen bought her first AR-15 five years ago."The magazine holds 10 rounds just like a standard handgun because in California, we're limited to 10 rounds," said Hauffen.Hauffen, a member of San Diego County Gun Owners, says state requirements actually make an AR-15 slower to load than a handgun. With the required so-called bullet button feature, gun owners need a tool like an allen wrench to release the magazine.But anti-gun violence advocates say the rifle is still more dangerous than a handgun."It's designed to be more accurate. It's designed to project a bullet faster and more lethally," said Ron Marcus, Director of Public Outreach for San Diegans for Gun Violence Prevention.Starting last year, state law extended the assault weapons ban to include the sales of the AR-15 with the bullet buttons. Owners can still keep their AR-15s, but they have to register the gun with the state by June."If a gun is used in a crime, we need to be able to know how it got into the possession of the person who has it," said Marcus."I don't think it's going to be effective at all...the law-abiding citizens are following the law," said Hauffen. "The bad guys won't be registering their guns."Hauffen says registering the gun at the initial purchase is sufficient, but Marcus points out some transactions, like sales between private sellers and family, are hard to trace.State officials haven't released numbers, but it's estimated there are thousands - if not tens of thousands - of legally owned AR-15s in California. 1738
