Every traveler has their pet peeves, but crying babies are almost guaranteed to grate. Now Japan Airlines has revealed a new tool that lets you dodge infants when you book your seat."Passengers traveling with children between 8 days and 2 years old who select their seats on the JAL website will have a child icon displayed on their seats on the seat selection screen," reads the airline's website."This lets other passengers know a child may be sitting there."And one Twitter user praised the feature following a recent flight."Thank you, @JAL_Official_jp for warnings me about where babies plan to scream and yell during a 13 hour trip," wrote Rahat Ahmed."This really ought to be mandatory across the board."Before babyphobes get too excited, Japan Airlines cautions that the baby map will not display child icons in certain situations. It only works for bookings made through the JAL website, for example, and icons will not display if there is a change in aircraft. If you are taking a small child on your trip, JAL offers a number of services to make your experience better. The airline provides a number of strollers for rent in the airport, and will accept baby strollers as checked baggage for free.Passengers traveling with infants also enjoy priority boarding, and offers hot water for bottles as well as diaper changing facilities on board.CNN has contacted JAL for comment. 1394

DETROIT — WXYZ received disturbing new undercover video showing dogs at an animal testing lab in Michigan. The Humane Society of the United States says the footage shows dogs getting doses of pesticides and drugs. According to the group, its investigation found beagles and hounds suffering and dying. The video was supposedly shot at the Charles River Lab in Mattawan, Michigan, between April and August 2018.Experiments were carried out on behalf of three companies, including Dow Chemical, which is based in Midland, Michigan, according to the Humane Society. The organization is demanding that the testing stop and the dogs be released. The Dow Chemical company responded to the report Tuesday. The company said it is required to test pesticides and fungicides on dogs to make sure they aren't too toxic. The HSUS investigation at the Charles River Lab found some dogs had their jaws surgically broken to test dental implants. Others had drug pumps inserted beneath their skin.Currently, the focus is on 36 beagles being force-fed toxic chemicals sometimes up to four times a day for almost a year."We need to get out of this cycle of using dogs just because we have always used them," said Kathleen Conlee, vice president of animal research issues at the Humane Society of the United States.HSUS investigators went undercover at Charles River Lab for nearly 100 days in spring and summer of 2018."I don't think everyone in there is an uncaring person. I've been there myself but hopefully someday they will see the light and join us in trying to end abuse of animals like this," Conlee said.Companies pay the lab to carry out their product testing on animals. That includes Michigan-based Dow Chemical. The company contracted the lab to use 36 beagles for a year-long test on the toxicity of a new fungicide. The program started in summer 2018 and will be completed in July 2019."These dogs were getting force-fed pesticides every day for a one-year long pesticide test that is widely considered unnecessary. These animals are still alive today but will be killed in July," said Conlee.U.S. law only requires a 90-day test to get new pesticides approved. However, Dow said that Brazil requires a year of testing, hence the long test underway in Michigan.HSUS said that's not the only way dogs suffer at Charles River Lab. Its undercover operatives said dogs had their chest cavities opened up to see how that area tolerated having drugs pumped in. Others had invasive surgeries to test an amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, drug. The Humane Society said the long-term results don't justify the cruelty."Over 90 percent of drugs that show promising results in animals ultimately fail in humans. We want to see better tests that are relevant to humans," Conlee said.Dow's full statement on the testing can be read below: 2865

Exposing skin to sunlight is a convenient way to meet our vitamin D needs, which is crucial for bone health. That might make you wonder: Does wearing sunscreen interfere with vitamin D levels and potentially cause vitamin D deficiency? The short answer is yes. But before you toss your SPF 30, dermatologists say the relationship between sunscreen and vitamin D is much more nuanced than that.According to Dr. Henry W. Lim, chair emeritus of the department of dermatology at the Henry Ford Health System and former president of the American Academy of Dermatology, if sunscreen is supplied in a thick layer it "can effectively block sunlight and cause a lack of vitamin D synthesis in skin," Lim said. A thick layer is defined as roughly equivalent to about 1 ounce, or the size of one golf ball, for the full body, he said."However, in the real world ... most people apply less than this amount," Lim added. In other words, "the 'in use' SPF is actually lower than the labeled SPF."So, you may not have to worry about vitamin D deficiency if you're not putting enough sunscreen on in the first place. 1113

DETROIT — General Motors quietly removed a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer SUV from a display at the Detroit Tigers' stadium on Saturday after the company was criticized for including a vehicle built in Mexico as part of the advertisement. The criticism comes as GM plans to close four production plants in the United States in the coming months. Two of those plants — located in Hamtramck and Warren, Michigan — are both located within 20 miles of Comerica Park, home of the Tigers. The closures of the plant will leave thousands of people without work.In a statement, a GM spokesperson said that the Blazer will be replaced with a Chevrolet Traverse. 654
