BEIJING, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's anti-graft chief He Guoqiang on Tuesday urged discipline and supervision authorities to press ahead with the building of a clean government and strengthened efforts in corruption prevention.     He, secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said in a meeting that efforts should be made to handle people's complaints and embrace innovation in the establishment of anti-corruption mechanism.     He asked discipline and supervision authorities to combat extravagance, intensify crackdown on the practice of "small coffer", which refers to fund, securities and assets that should be but fail to be listed into the account books of CPC and government organizations in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.     He also called for authorities to make public Party affairs, especially at grassroots organizations, and investigate and prosecute corruption cases.     Efforts should be made to expand channels for the general public to be involved in anti-corruption endeavor, said He, who is a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Tuesday called for more efforts to optimize land use in order to save resources and further economic restructuring.     Li made the remarks during an inspection to the Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR). As the most populous country in the world, China has been faced with shortages of land, water, energy and minerals, and the shortages were worsened by rapid economic growth, he said. HEGANG, Heilongjiang, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from the deadly coal mine blast in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province has risen to 104, said local authorities early Monday morning.     Another four are still trapped in the shaft. Rescuers get ready to go down into the pit to search for survivors at the site of the accident at the Xinxing Coal Mine in Hegang City, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, on Nov. 22, 2009    The blast happened at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday at the Xinxing Coal Mine under the state-owned Heilongjiang Longmei Mining Holding Group's subsidiary in Hegang City. A total of 528 miners were working underground when the blast happened.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) --The U.S. Commerce Department said on Tuesday that it has set preliminary antidumping duties (AD)on imports of steel grating from China, a move that might escalate trade disputes between the two countries.     The department said it "preliminarily determined that Chinese producers/exporters have sold steel grating in the United States at 14.36 to 145.18 percent less than normal value."     As a result of this preliminary determination, Commerce will instruct U.S. Customs and Border Protection to collect a cash deposit or bond based on these preliminary rates.     The product covered by this investigation is a downstream steel product typically comprised of bearing and cross bars used for walkways, platforms and flooring.     From 2006 to 2008, imports of steel grating from China increased 538.44 percent by volume and were valued at an estimated90.7 million dollars in 2008, according to the U.S. Commerce Department.     Commerce said that it is currently scheduled to make its final determination in April 2010.     If Commerce makes an affirmative final determination, and the U.S. International Trade Commission makes an affirmative final determination that imports of steel grating from China materially injures, or threaten material injury to, the domestic industry, Commerce will issue an antidumping duty order.     The new case followed U.S. President Barack Obama's recent decision to impose punitive tariffs on all car and light truck tires from China for three years, a move quickly denounced by China as a "serious act of trade protectionism."     The protectionist moves by the Obama administration will ultimately hurt the U.S.-China trade relations, which are becoming more and more important due to the global financial crisis, economists warned.
