Some residents in 34 counties in California will lose electricity overnight Tuesday into Wednesday in hopes to reduce the risk of the spread of wildfires, PG&E announced on Tuesday. The power outages could last several days, PG&E said. This is due to high winds that are expected in parts of California on Wednesday and Thursday. Isolated areas could have winds of 60 to 70 MPH. Gusty winds coupled with dry conditions mean conditions will be favorable for wildfires. Power company officials say that the outages will begin in the northern sections of the state, and trickle down into central and coastal sections of California. “The safety of our customers and the communities we serve is our most important responsibility, which is why PG&E has decided to turn power off to customers during this widespread, severe wind event. Quest Diagnostics says nearly 12 million people could have been affected by a data breach that includes their personal information, certain financial data, Social Security numbers and medical information.According to the company, American Medical Collection Agency informed Quest that an unauthorized user had access to AMCA's system containing personal information they received from various entities, including Quest.AMCA provides billing collection services to Optum360, which is a Quest contractor.According to Quest, AMCA first notified them May 14 of potential unauthorized activity on the AMCA web payment page, and on May 31, they notified them that the data included information on about 11.9 million Quest patients.AMCA has not yet given detailed or complete information about the data breach to Quest or Optum360, the company said, including which information of which individuals may have been affected. Quest has not also been able to verify the accuracy of information received from AMCA, they said."Quest is taking this matter very seriously and is committed to the privacy and security of our patients’ personal information. Several major US airlines were reporting malfunctions with flight planning software early Monday morning, leading to delays across the country.A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said the issue involved a third-party vendor that provides weight and balance software which airlines use to determine flight plans and make fuel calculations, among other purposes.The spokesman, Greg Martin, said the outage was "short-lived" and delays should be "minimal."The issue is not believed to have put any passengers in danger.Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines and American Airlines said the issues caused passengers to experience delays Monday.Southwest said in a statement that they "issued a ground stop" as a result of technical issues "involving a vendor that provides aircraft weight and balance data."
