But after advertising their safety efforts, demand is up 20% compared to this time last year.“The Santa Claus entertainers, as you can imagine, they're a high-risk group. So, we want to make sure that Santa's safety is our number one priority,” said Allen.Allen says they’ve developed a Plexiglas "Santa shield" that creates a physical barrier to allow for photos with Santa.“We at HireSanta.com are also working on virtual Santa visits where you can literally visit with Santa within the confines of your own home,” said Allen.Brookfield Properties, the second largest operator of U.S. malls, says it will host Santa in 134 of its 150 plus malls with "touchless experiences."Santa’s Village, a popular Illinois amusement park temporarily shut down by the pandemic, is taking Santa on the road.“For over 60 years, boys and girls have come to the house here in the park to visit me. But now we're going to take my house to your house,” said the amusement park’s Santa Claus.Their mobile Santa home has a separate entrance and exit to maintain social distancing, and a working fireplace will keep visitors warm and plenty of masks and "Santa-tizer" will be on hand as well.“It's great, because we can actually bring again that magic from the park to people's individual homes in local communities,” said Santa’s Village marketing director Brian Wright. “That way people can actually have a personalized visit with Santa.”Whether behind Plexiglas or inside a traveling "One North Pole," changes are afoot to ensure that Santa Claus is still coming to town. 2653

The police officer who handcuffed and arrested a nurse for refusing to go against the hospital's policy on drawing blood said through an attorney that he would like to personally apologize for the incident, KUTV reported. Detective Jeff Payne faced criticism for the way he handled an incident in July where he requested hospital employees to draw blood from an unconscious driver who had just been in an accident without that driver's permission or a warrant. The hospital, citing legal precedent, has a policy of not drawing blood without permission or a court-ordered warrant. When nurse Alex Wubbels refused to draw blood, she was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police cruiser. "Jeff would love the chance to sit down and apologize for what happened here," attorney Greg Skordas told KUTV. "If he could do this over he would do it over differently."Payne, along with another officer, were placed on administrative leave by the Salt Lake City Police Department after video of the incident went viral. The Polk County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office has arrested a substitute teacher at Westwood Middle School after he reportedly grabbed a 12-year-old boy around the neck and pushed him against a wall. Robert Knight, 39, an employee of Kelly Educational Staffing, has been charged with negligent child abuse without bodily harm. The incident occurred on April 12 at Westwood Middle School in Winter Haven. Deputies responded to a call in reference to a child abuse investigation. A student told deputies he was choked by the P.E. coach, Robert Knight, on Wednesday, April 11. The student told deputies that he and Knight were "smack talking" when Knight took his shirt off and challenged the student to a fight, according to the arrest affidavit. The student said he didn't want to fight a "thirty year old man." Knight then wrapped his hand around the student's neck and pushed him against the wall while other students grabbed Knight's arm and attempted to separate him from the student, according to the affidavit. While he was being interviewed, Knight told deputies "I guess I finally let it get to me," referencing the smack talking with the student. He told deputies he "lost his cool" and doesn't know if he blacked out during the incident but that all he remembers were the kids pulling him off of the student. Knight is not employed by the Polk County School Board, but is employed by Kelly Educational Staffing as a substitute teacher. He was filling in for the male P.E. coach on Wednesday, April 11. Knight was taken into custody and transported to the Polk County Jail without incident."We expect much better conduct from a substitute school teacher. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court released new congressional district lines Monday, replacing the old Republican-drawn maps in time for the state's May primary.House Republican and Democratic operatives said Monday afternoon they are still analyzing the partisan makeup of the new districts.But in a swing state where Republicans hold 13 House seats to Democrats' five, the balance appears all but certain to tip in Democrats' direction.The biggest changes come in the Philadelphia suburbs, where three Republican-held seats -- Reps. Ryan Costello, Brian Fitzpatrick and the retiring Pat Meehan -- were already Democratic targets.The new maps appear more compact and suburban than the existing district boundaries and an alternative that state legislative Republicans had submitted -- and one of those districts is now made up of just Montgomery County, a Democratic stronghold that the GOP had proposed dividing heavily.Republicans in the Pennsylvania legislature have said they intend to challenge the new maps in federal court.
