A public housing building in Cleveland Heights, Ohio has become a target for at least one scammer posing as a nurse and offering free cancer screenings. But instead of giving people help, she walks away with personal information.One victim, Azzizat Crumble said she was flipping through the channels on Saturday when she heard a knock on the door."Opened the door and she said she was from Stephanie Tubbs' and they were going around doing cancer screenings," Crumble said.The woman was dressed in scrubs and even offering an incentive.  "If we were to agree to it, we would get a 0 gift card to Walmart in the mail," Crumble said.Crumble said it's not uncommon to see nurses in her assisted living building, so she agreed."She was like, 'Before we do it, I am going to need to see your ID and Medicaid card.' So I went and got it and she wrote the information down in a notebook," Crumble recalled.The woman then proceeded to swab Crumble's cheeks and was on her way within 10 minutes."And then she was like, 'Okay, well you will receive your card within five to seven business days," said Crumble.Crumble said she didn't think anything of it until she saw a sign on a bulletin board in the hallway of her complex. "Scam alert: If anyone comes to your door asking for your personal information, call the police immediately," Crumble said the sign read.Crumble said her social security number was on the Medicaid card she gave the woman, so she has since been monitoring her credit activity.Police say this is an on-going investigation. They believe at least four people were targeted, two of which handed over their personal information. Police say they do have a person of interest and potentially two others.  1848

A new video is sparking debate on whether a father went too far in disciplining his daughter for bullying.“My beautiful daughter is going to walk 5 miles to school in 36-degree weather,” says the Matt Cox, in a video posted to his Facebook page.It's the latest example of a parent shaming their child.In the video, Cox explains his 10-year-old daughter was suspended from riding the school bus for a second time after bullying another student. So, instead of driving her, he made her walk 5 miles to school.“I know a lot of you parents are not going to agree with this, but that is alright, because I am doing what I feel is right to teach my daughter a lesson,” Cox says.The father has received both support and criticism online, but experts say shaming can negatively impact a child.“What happens is the child incorporates that negative image of themselves and that can cause a lot of problems,” says Dr. Robert Sege.Those problems include depression and anxiety, says Dr. Sege, who co-wrote the American Academy of Pediatrics Policy on discipline. The policy takes a strong stance against spanking.Effective discipline varies by age, but Dr. Sege says there's a common factor that parents should apply to children of all ages.“That's the bottom line message that parents should be consistently sending to their children when they misbehave,” says Dr. Sege. “That they know their children are capable of good behavior. A starting point for investigators trying to trace the bombs sent to Democratic figures and CNN this week: the postmark.But in some cases, it appears to be a missing clue.The postmark typically indicates when and where the mail was sent from and is marked over the stamps -- "canceling" them, and preventing the stamps from being reused. Unlike stamps, most of which cannot be traced, the impression left by a postmark or mail meter is distinctive and can help investigators focus their search.A postmark is visible in a photo of at least one of the packages seen by CNN. A postmark is not visible in photos of several other packages shared with CNN -- only adding to the questions about their origins.The lack of a postmark is very rare, according to Nancy Pope of the National Postal Museum.A postal inspector who spoke to CNN on the condition of anonymity indicated it would be very unusual for a piece of mail to leave the facility where it was dropped off for delivery without such a mark.That could indicate that a sender or senders were working in multiple diverse geographical areas, including New York, Washington, Florida and California.Another source told CNN it is possible some of the stamps may not have been canceled because of the package's soft sides and odd shape, which would make it difficult to stamp.The US Postal Service's website also says mail may not be postmarked if it was processed through a meter or if the postage was paid by permit or precanceled stamp. None of those appear to apply to this situation.Adding to the mystery are post office markings on one of two packages sent to former Vice President Joe Biden indicating the stamps on the package did not cover the cost of the delivery, and additional postage is due.That suggests the package was weighed at some point during the shipping process, a former postal inspector told CNN.It was unclear from the photo whether that package had been postmarked.Postmarks can be applied by machine and by hand, depending on how a piece of mail is sent, according to the Postal Service. When mail is run through an automated system at a processing distribution center, the postmark is applied, and the mailed item is screened by a biohazard detection system.It was not clear why postmarks were not visible on several of the packages, and the US Postal Inspection Service provided a statement to CNN that did not address the question."The U.S. Postal Service has developed a comprehensive approach to protecting the mailsystem by utilizing a targeted strategy of specialized technology, screening protocols and employee training," read the statement.The statement noted its Dangerous Mail Investigations Program includes law enforcement officers who "are trained to recognize the common characteristics of suspicious mail and are highly proficient in the use of state-of-the-art equipment to include portable X-ray machines." 2907

A North Carolina pastor who led a march to the polls over the weekend that ended with police pepper-spraying participants says he will lead another march on Election Day.On Saturday, Rev. Greg Drumwright led the "I Am Change" march in Graham, North Carolina, from a local AME Church to the Alamance County Courthouse.According to the Raleigh News & Observer, the march included a moment of silence for George Floyd, who was killed during an arrest in Minnesota this summer and whose death sparked a nationwide protest movement against police brutality.Following that moment of silence, the News & Observer reports that deputies and police officers used pepper spray on the crowd and began arresting participants. At least one journalist covering the event was arrested.Some participants told the News & Observer that they were given little warning as to the officer's decision to shut down the event. The Associated Press reports that Graham Police say they issued several warnings to the crowd to move from the roadway before releasing pepper spraying and later arresting eight people.On Sunday, Drumwright confirmed in a TV interview that he intends to finish the march on Election Day. On Monday afternoon, Drumwright further confirmed Tuesday's event."Thanks Alamance County Jail for the photo op.
