BEIJING, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Premier Wen Jiabao on Friday urged young Chinese and Africans to remember the traditional friendship and work together to promote Sino-African relations.     "I hope young people from China and African countries will learn from each other and help each other, treat differences with an open mind, and contribute your wisdom and strength to building the strategic China-Africa partnership," Wen said.     He made the remarks while addressing the opening ceremony of the third China-Africa Youth Festival and a farewell ceremony for young Chinese volunteers departing for Africa. Wen on Friday attended the opening ceremony of the third China-Africa Youth Festival and a farewell ceremony for young Chinese volunteers departing for Africa.    The festival, originally proposed by Wen at the second China-Africa Cooperation Ministerial Conference in Ethiopia in December 2003, has become a platform for China-Africa exchanges.     "Young people bear the hope of a nation and they also shoulder the future of a friendly China-Africa relationship," Wen said, expressing his hope young people would fulfill their historic responsibilities and create better conditions for friendship development.     The Chinese government decided in 2006 to send 300 young volunteers to Africa to work in medical, agricultural, sports and educational field.     Wen encouraged the volunteers to serve the African people with their knowledge and skills, win their friendship and trust, and learn from them.     More than 750 guests, including youth delegates from 49 African countries, attended the ceremony.

QINGDAO, Shandong, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- The fourth Sino-U.S. Energy Policy Dialogue opened Sunday in the coastal city of Qingdao in east China's Shandong Province.     China and the U.S. have huge potentials to cooperate in developing wind, solar and nuclear power. Both countries shall hold responsibilities to develop more technologies and equipment to tackle the challenges of climate changes, said David Sandalow, assistant secretary for Policy and International Affairs at the Energy Department.     Zhang Yuqing, an official with China's National Energy Administration, said China is willing to learn advanced technologies of exploring gas. The consumption of gas has been growing by 20 percent every year since 2006.     The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding to launch the dialogue in 2004. The first forum was held in 2005 in the U.S.

BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leaders on Sunday attended a concert of a renowned Chinese singer to commemorate the 70th anniversary of her participation into the country's revolutionary artistic cause.     Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun and He Guoqiang, all members of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, attended the concert performed by Wang Kun and her students.     Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao sent a congratulatory letter to the show, which was jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles.     Wang Kun, born in 1925, was the protagonist in the opera of the White-Haired Girl, a household legend describing the sufferings by local farmers under the exploitation of landlords before 1949.

Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks Friday evening when he met the heads of 10 major media organizations attending the World Media Summit in Beijing.     The Chinese government has been promoting media development and supporting Chinese media in enhancing exchanges and cooperation with foreign counterparts in news, human resources, information technologies and business development, he said. BEIJING, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said Monday it would extend anti-dumping duties on phthalic anhydride imported from the Republic of Korea, Japan and India for another five years after review investigation.     Phthalic anhydride is an important industrial chemical mainly used in the mass production of plasticizers for plastics     The imported phthalic anhydride would cause damage to Chinese industries should anti-dumping duties be lifted, said the ministry.     The duties took effect Monday.     On Jan. 7, China imposed anti-dumping measures on phthalic anhydride to offset negative impact on domestic producers.
