BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leaders have called on Chinese people to concentrate their energy on quake relief and economic and social development at the same time.     Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the call when meeting quake-relief model workers here on Wednesday.     Xi Jinping, who is China's vice-president and also member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, also met with the model workers. SANAA, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said here Wednesday that China and Yemen share a big potential and many favorable conditions for expanding the scale of investment and cooperation.     Xi made the remarks in a speech at the opening ceremony of the China-Yemen Bilateral Investment Seminar, which attracted some 300 Chinese and Yemeni officials and entrepreneurs, including Yemeni Prime Minister Ali Muhammad al-Mujawar.     Xi said it is the natural requisite of economic development for the two countries to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and create common prosperity.     Noting that Yemen has geographical advantages and rich reserves of natural resources, he expressed the hope that companies of the two countries could proceed from traditional friendship to mutual understanding and cooperation.     Xi said the companies of the two countries should stick to mutually beneficial and win-win practices so as to promote common development. BEIJING, July 17 (Xinhua) -- China's State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said Thursday night it had launched a level-three flood control emergency response mechanism to cope with Typhoon Kalmaegi.     Tropical storm Kalmaegi escalated to typhoon level on Thursday and was expected to be reinforced and land the coast areas in east China's Zhejiang and Fujian provinces on Friday, according to the headquarters. Chen Lei, deputy commander-in-chief of the headquarters, ordered local governments to start their emergency mechanism and make full preparations for the typhoon's landfall.     Meteorological, water resources, and transportation, and other related departments should closely monitor the situation and inform the public on time, said Chen.     Kalmaegi, the seventh tropical storm this year, is also expected to affect Shanghai on Friday and Saturday.     Under its influence, force 8-10 winds is predicted to blow on the sea off Zhejiang. Heavy storms are likely to hit the coast cities in Zhejiang, the provincial meteorological authority said Thursday.     It is also expected to bring heavy rain to Quanzhou, Xiamen and Zhangzhou in Fujian in the next two days.     The heavy rain would continue in Fujian until this weekend, according to the weather services.     Flood-control, offshore fishery and marine authorities in Fujian, Zhejiang and Shanghai have sent out warnings for early preparations against the storm. BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao celebrated the successful return of Chinese taikonauts who had completed the country's third manned space mission on Sunday.     Together with other senior officials and officers at the Beijing Aerospace Control Center (BACC), Wen watched the re-entry of Shenzhou-7 space module to Earth in a live transmission. China's Shenzhou-7 spacecraft's re-entry module lands safely in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.After the module landed in China's northern grassland and the three taikonauts Zhai Zhigang, Liu Boming, and Jing Haipeng moved out of the spaceship by themselves, Wen congratulated the victory with the technical staff members and operators in the center.     Delivering a congratulatory note from the central authorities, Wen said the mission was "a victory of the Chinese space and technological field and a monumental achievement in the socialist causes".
