But, one thing the report won’t tell you is if that car was used as a ride sharing vehicle for Uber or Lyft.Without this information, you’ll want to check the mileage. A telltale sign a car was used for ride sharing is a newer car that has a lot of miles. Next, check the rear seat for excess wear and tear.You’ll also want to look for residue from stickers. Uber and Lyft drivers have to display their stickers on the front or rear windshields.If there are signs that the car was use for ride sharing, you’ll want to reach out to the manufacturer, not the dealer, to ask how many miles remain covered on the warranty. SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) -- Two teenagers were arrested Saturday in a sex trafficking investigation involving a 12-year-old girl. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, detectives found the girl on the 8500 block of Paradise Valley Road Saturday. The department says the 12-year-old was a runaway “who was possibly being sex trafficked.”The two 17-year-old boys were arrested for possession of firearms. “The Human Trafficking investigation is still developing and being handled by Human Trafficking Task Force,” the department added.Marisa Ugarte is the founder of 'Bilateral Safety Corridor Coalition' [BSCC]. For two decades, she has helped victims of human trafficking get back their lives. What startled her about this case was the age of the victim. "The average age that I have seen is 16 and 17. Some 15. Very few 14. But a 12-year-old? You can count them in your hand," Ugarte said. FBI studies show San Diego is one of the highest child sex trafficking areas in the nation. The reason: Tourism. "You have Comic-Con. We have a cyber patrol that we do. In three hours, we had 45 calls of buyers." Ugarte said. These patrollers look for potential buyers on the internet and intercept them before they prey on children. Another reason San Diego's human trafficking statistics are also high is the international aspect. The area's proximity to the border brings in large numbers of sex and labor trafficking. Human trafficking is a billion-dollar underworld operation, with victims so young and trapped, often out of desperation. Ugarte sent a message to the young victim. "Please don't disappear and become one girl on the milk carton. You do not know what is out there. Please. Just think about it. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A toddler lovingly known as the "Baby Shark Girl" is making big strides.When WFTS first met Harper Mae Comparin, the then-2-year-old girl born with spina bifida was learning how to walk via a very unique method: the "Baby Shark" song.Her physical therapist at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital used the syncopation of the love-it-or-hate-it kids jingle to get Harper Mae to move. And it worked.Now, a year and a half later, her team of medical workers and family members continue to use inventive methods to help her deal with complications related to the birth defect in which the spinal cord fails to develop properly.She needed therapy to walk and to talk.Physical therapist assistant Nick Hamilton, who works at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, recently helped Harper Mae when she was scared of getting her leg cast sawed off."I'm a big kid, so I fit right in here," Hamilton said.So, he improvised. He made a cast for Harper Mae's Elsa doll. And it worked."Having her baby doll that she carries with her everywhere get a cast just like hers has helped her feel better about it," said mom Erica Comparin.Hamilton says a big part of Harper Mae's therapy is "improvisation." September Buys, a teacher in Michigan, says she doesn't really like garage sales, and that should tell you just how far she will go to help her students this year.Buys, an art teacher at Crossroads Middle School in Grand Rapids, said she was feeling helpless about all the uncertainty surrounding the school year-- and decided to channel her frustration into cleaning."I just started cleaning out my closet, because that felt better, just to let some things go," she said. "I made a pile, and then I moved onto the girls’ closet, and then I moved onto the toy room, and just this pile grew and grew and grew.”The idea came to her to hold a garage sale to give away the items. She also reached out to the community on Facebook, asking if others had items they wanted to contribute as well.Instead of selling what's been collected, Buys asked people to donate art supplies or purchase items off the Amazon wishlist she created to help her students.“I think it’s really, really important for people to connect with each other and be kind to each other and if you have something extra, why not share it? Things are things… I think what’s more important for me right now is to make sure that my students are cared for and that they have the things they need to feel like they can express what’s going on, they can kind of get some of that stuff out, and the more materials and stuff I have for my students, the better.”Buys plans to take all the art supplies to create individual 'art kits' for her students."We always need help with purchasing supplies – but this year especially, whether the kids are at home or whether they’re in person, they’re not going to be able to share supplies in the same way. I can’t take one package of pencils and put it in the middle of the table for kids to share anymore. September saw the highest number on record for family members crossing the US-Mexico border in a single month, the Department of Homeland Security said Tuesday.The figure could help fuel President Donald Trump's?calls for stricter immigration policies, a key issue he has been citing on the campaign trail in the closing weeks of the midterm election season.According to figures released by Border Patrol as part of its annual end of fiscal year numbers, 16,658 family members were apprehended crossing the border.The numbers were close during the 2014 unaccompanied minor crisis, when there were 16,330 apprehensions in June that year, and also close to numbers in December 2017, when 16,139 family members were apprehended on the southern border.2018 saw the most family apprehensions on the southern border, a DHS spokesperson said. The DHS data released Tuesday goes back to 2013.Overall apprehensions on the southern border in 2018 were also up slightly, at 396,579, up from 303,916 in 2017, but down from the previous year and in line with the last five years.The total is nowhere near the highs seen in the early 2000s.Senior administration officials told reporters Tuesday they have seen a steady increase of unaccompanied children and families compared to single adults apprehended illegally crossing the southern border. The officials spoke on a conference call under condition they not be identified by name.In September, almost 50% of those apprehended were family members and unaccompanied children. Last September, 32% were family members and unaccompanied children.The officials say that in 2000, 90% of those crossing illegally were single adults.The vast majority of family members apprehended come from the northern triangle countries of Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras, according to the officials, who say 75% of the unaccompanied minors come from Central America.The spike in family crossings has followed Trump's move in June to reverse his administration's "zero policy" that led to family separations. The widely criticized separations themselves followed an uptick in statistics for border crossings, and the new report on the surge in families entering the US comes just weeks before the midterm elections, which Trump has tried to make in part a referendum on immigration. 2316
