In his opening monologue, Academy Awards host Jimmy Kimmel encouraged award recipients to discuss social issues, thank family members and give words of encouragement during acceptance speeches, but Kimmel announced there is an incentive to keep speeches short:A Brand New Jet Ski! Retail value: ,999.To the tune of the Price is Right theme, Kimmel showed off the brand new jet ski on the Oscars' stage. When Sam Rockwell took the stage to win Best Actor in a Supporting Role, he said he would keep his speech short in an effort to win the jet ski.“Why waste precious time thanking your mom when you could take her” on a jet ski ride, Kimmel said.During his monologue, Kimmel was not afraid to get political, and acknowledged some of Hollywood's recent shortcomings. Kimmel discussed the Me Too movement, and the importance of the academy of expelling Harvey Weinstein following sexual misconduct revelations were reported. “The world is watching us. We need to set an example,” he said. “The truth is if we are successful, women will only have to deal with harassment all the time every other place they go.”Kimmel also pointed out Hollywood's liberal slant."We don't make films like 'Call Me By Your Name' for money. We make them to upset Mike Pence," he said. While Kimmel only delivered a few overly political jokes, he opted to make a flub fom last year's Academy Awards when the wrong film was announced as Best Picture a central theme of his monologue on Sunday. “What happened last year was unfortunate,” Kimmel said, “I said, ‘No, I don’t want to do comedy with the accountants.’ And then the accountants went and did comedy on their own.” 1693

In the midst of a political battle over funding for the United States Postal Service, it appears the Department of Veterans Affairs has been looking into alternative delivery services.A veterans group called Disabled Vets of America posted a statement to their website explaining the situation, after they had approached the VA about concerns their members had shared.“The VA has now confirmed to us that the United States Postal Service (USPS), which is responsible for delivering about 90% of all VA mail order prescriptions, has indeed been delayed in delivering these critical medications by an average of almost 25% over the past year, with many locations experiencing much more significant delays,” the statement posted to the DAV’s website states. The VA acknowledged it was looking into delivery services outside the USPS in an email exchange with the DAV, according to CNN.“To help mitigate these postal delays, the VA has been forced to switch to alternative delivery services in a number of areas across the country and is taking other actions to expedite processing and delivery of prescriptions,” the statement from DAV reads. The VA has had an increase in demand for mail-order prescriptions during the coronavirus pandemic, they told CNN. Explaining that the VA has always used a “variety of prescription delivery methods to ensure timely delivery.”Spokesperson Christina Noel said they monitor prescription delivery times throughout the country. 1467
Is the Oprah Winfrey halo starting to fade from Weight Watchers?Weight Watchers shares fell nearly 15 percent Tuesday after the company reported a decline in subscribers between the first and second quarters. But the market may be overreacting to a calendar problem. For the past few years, Weight Watchers has reported a similar dip in subscribers during that period. The rolls grow again as the year progresses, which makes sense.People are often gung-ho about exercising, eating better and losing weight right after the winter holidays. But New Year's resolutions can be hard to maintain in the spring and summer.Even though some subscribers drop out in the first few months of the year, total subscribers are actually way up since Winfrey joined. The base grew 28 percent from a year ago to 4.5 million. In the third quarter of 2015, the company had fewer than 2.6 million subscribers.Despite the big drop in the stock Tuesday, the company's latest profits actually topped forecasts, and it raised its outlook.Shares in the company are up nearly 80 percent this year and have skyrocketed more than 1,000 percent since Winfrey first invested about million.Weight Watchers has done an extraordinary job over the past few years of making the company's programs more exciting for a broader base of people, particularly since Mindy Grossman — formerly of HSN — took over as CEO last year. The new Weight Watchers Freestyle program lets you eat a wider variety of food. Weight Watchers has also partnered with meditation company Headspace to provide exclusive content on the Weight Watchers app to its subscribers. It's all about wellness, not necessarily how many pounds you've lost.Grossman said during an earnings call with analysts Monday evening that beginning next January, no artificial ingredients will appear in any Weight Watchers-branded products. And she quoted Winfrey, who said at a Weight Watchers event in February that "healthy is the new skinny."In addition to Winfrey, who is also a board member and the company's third largest investor with a 5 percent stake worth about 0 million, Weight Watchers has brought on actor Kevin Smith, music star DJ Khaled and celebrity chef Eric Greenspan as "ambassadors" for the company. So there is no issues with Oprah's halo. Weight Watchers still looks pretty healthy. 2337
In hopes of boosting international travel, American Airlines said it will begin offering coronavirus testing on some international flights leaving Miami, as well as flights to Hawaii out of Dallas. In cooperation with the governments of Jamaica and the Bahamas, American Airlines will be testing passengers for the coronavirus before flights out of Miami starting next month. The airline said that flights from Miami to Jamaica will allow for Jamaica residents to take a test, which will allow for a 14-day mandatory quarantine to be waved if the test comes back negative. The goal of the program is to eventually open the country to US citizens looking for a getaway.American Airlines said coronavirus testing will also be available for those flying from Miami to the Bahamas. Details of that program are still being worked out.Preflight testing will also be available for those flying from Dallas to Hawaii. The program will begin Oct. 15, and allow travelers three options: In at-home test, an in-person test at an urgent care, an or on-site rapid test available at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. The tests must be completed within 72 hours of a flight.“The pandemic has changed our business in ways we never could have expected, but all the while, the entire American Airlines team has eagerly tackled the challenge of reimagining the way we deliver a safe, healthy and enjoyable travel experience for our customers,” said Robert Isom, President of American Airlines. “Our plan for this initial phase of preflight testing reflects the ingenuity and care our team is putting into rebuilding confidence in air travel, and we view this as an important step in our work to accelerate an eventual recovery of demand.” 1718
