L'AQUILA, Italy, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo, who was to attend outreach session of the G8 Summit on behalf of Chinese President Hu Jintao, met here on Wednesday with Jacob Zuma, president of South Africa, calling for deepening cooperation between the two countries.     During the meeting, Dai conveyed President Hu's greetings and congratulations to Zuma on his victory in the general election, according to a press release issued by the Chinese delegation. BEIJING, May 19 (Xinhua) -- China and Brazil issued a joint communique on Tuesday to boost their strategic partnership as Brazilian president visited Beijing.     Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva agreed that both countries have enjoyed fruitful cooperation since forging diplomatic ties 35 years ago, the communique said. They believed it is of great significance to further facilitate China-Brazil strategic partnership at the current stage.     The two countries signed cooperative agreements in politics, law, science, space ,finance, port, energy and agricultural products, among others.     Lula da Silva reiterated in the communique his country's adherence to the one-China policy and admitted that the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government of China and Taiwan is a part of China. The project was considered a technology cooperation model between the developing countries.     The two sides also agreed to expand cooperation in education, culture, press, tourism and sports. China welcomes Brazil to set up a general consulate in Guangzhou, capital city of south China's Guangdong Province, the document said.     Brazil will participate in the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, and the president wished the World Expo a complete success, according to the communique.     The two developing nations agreed to keep close contacts within the frameworks of the Group of Five(G5) and the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China), and enhance coordination with other developing countries, to increase the participation and voices of developing countries in international affairs.     Hu and Lula da Silva believe and the two countries have taken "important" measures to tackle the global economic downturn, and made positive contribution to maintain respective economic growth and global economic recovery, the communique said. BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and U.S. President Barack Obama sent messages respectively to the United States' National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) Thursday, wishing its performance in China a success.     "I am pleased to extend my warm welcome to all the visiting artists from the United States," Hu said in the message. He recalled the NSO's first visit to China in 1999, saying it "left a beautiful impression to the Chinese audience."     Hu hailed the Symphony's second visit to China at the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-U.S. diplomatic relations. He said music can help to "refine sentiment of humankind and promote communication between people's hearts of different countries."     "I believe that music from across the Pacific Ocean will enhance the mutual understanding between our two peoples and certainly write a new chapter in the long run of friendship between us," Hu said.     He also wished the performances of the NSO a great success.     In his message, Obama extended a heartfelt welcome to all those attending this performance of the NSO as it tours the People's Republic of China for the second time.     "Music has been called a universal language, " said Obama. It plans to give a series of concerts in Beijing, Xi'an and Shanghai and perform the renowned works of Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky and Wagner for the Chinese audience.

BEIJING, June 13 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese mainland confirmed 22 new A/H1N1 flu cases Saturday, bringing the total to 165, with no reports of deaths. Four new cases each were confirmed in Guangdong and Fujian provinces, three each were confirmed in Shanghai and provinces of Sichuan and Hubei, and two each in Zhejiang and Hainan provinces, the Ministry of Health said in the latest report.
