SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University is warning students that they will need to be re-vaccinated against meningitis after Walgreens gave out shots at non-optimal temperature.According to The Daily Aztec, Walgreens recently discovered that the meningococcus B vaccines, given to 350 students on October 5 and 8, weren’t given at the right temperature.The company says its reaching out to students who received them. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University is alerting students who may have been exposed to meningococcal meningitis.The university says they were notified that a current student has a “probable case of meningococcal meningitis.”The university said in a tweet that it is immediately hosting two clinics for those who attended specific events with the student. The events were the Delta Sigma Phi Formal, held Friday, April 12, from 5 to 11 p.m. at the Spark Encore Event Center; and the Delta Sigma Phi Social Event, which was held Saturday, April 13, from 9:30 p.m. to Midnight, at the organization’s chapter facility. Students who attended the events are urged to attend one of the two clinics that are being offered for free at SDSU. The most common symptoms of meningococcal meningitis are fever, headache and a stiff neck, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Now some companies are helping their workers tackle the mounting debt, offering student loan assistance as a benefit.Fidelity Investments is one company leading the way with its Step Ahead Student Loan Assistance program. “We look at our jobs day-to-day and we try and figure out how we can help people make the right financial decisions in their lives and it was something holding back some of our folks here at Fidelity," said Jared Roethlisberger, a Fidelity Branch Manager in Mission Valley. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University will begin testing all students who live on campus for COVID-19, the school said Tuesday.According to the university, the testing will start on September 16. After the initial phase of testing, the school will begin testing students at random. “Following the initial phase of benchmark testing for all students in residence this week, we will then launch random testing for the on-campus housing population. During each round of testing, a set of individuals from each residential community group will be randomly sampled to be re-tested,” the school said.The news comes as 648 students tested positive or presumptive positive for the virus.According to SDSU, 644 students have so far tested positive for the virus. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- State Assemblyman Todd Gloria continues to maintain a comfortable lead in the race to become San Diego's next mayor, according to a new scientific poll. The 10News-Union-Tribune poll shows City Councilmembers Scott Sherman, a Republican, and Barbara Bry, a Democrat, vying for the second spot.The top two votegetters March 3, regardless of party, move on the November general election. "Todd Gloria looks assured of punching his ticket, but who is he going to face? Is that going to be fellow Democrat Barbara Bry... or is it going to be Scott Sherman, a Republican, proving that this is still a two-party town," said Thad Kousser, who chairs the political science department at UC San Diego. The poll, of 527 likely voters, shows Gloria leading the field with 29 percent of the vote. Sherman is in second with 18 percent, and Bry has 13 percent. The poll's margin of error was 5.3 percent, which Bry and Sherman are within. Democrats currently outnumber Republicans in registration by a two-to-one margin in the city, and independents outnumber Republicans by 40 percent. "When it gets close, when it gets into the single digits, the election day is really what matters," Kousser said. An additional question to be answered election day is the fate of Measure C. It would raise the overnight tax hotel guests pay in the city of San Diego by as much as 3.25 percent to pay for expanding the convention center, street repair and homeless services. The new poll shows the proposition with 61 percent support, 21 percent opposed and 18 percent still undecided. The measure requires two-thirds supermajority support to pass.
