WASHINGTON D.C. (KGTV) -- President Donald Trump said Saturday that he plans to pull out of an arms control agreement between the US and Russia, according to the Associated Press. The pact, signed in 1987 by the US and the former Soviet Union, prohibits both countries from owning, producing or test-flying ground-launched cruise missiles with a range of 300 to 3,400 miles."Russia has violated the agreement. They have been violating it for many years," Trump said at the Nevada rally. “And we're not going to let them violate a nuclear agreement and go out and do weapons and we're not allowed to."The agreement keeps the US from developing new weapons, with the country saying it will begin developing the weapons unless Russia and China agree not to possess or develop the missiles. Russia has condemned the US for pulling out of the agreement, calling it a “very dangerous step,” while Congress remains mixed.A split also emerged internationally in Europe with Britain saying it stands “absolutely resolute” with the US and Germany calling the move “regrettable.” 1090

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump tweeted approvingly of a video showing one of his supporters chanting “white power,” a racist slogan associated with white supremacists. He later deleted the tweet and the White House said the president had not heard “the one statement” on the video. The video appears to have been taken at The Villages, a Florida retirement community. It shows dueling demonstrations between Trump supporters and opponents. Trump tweeted: “Thank you to the great people of The Villages.” South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott told CNN that “there’s no question “ that Trump should not have retweeted the video and ”should just take it down.” Scott is the only Black Republican in the Senate. 717

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon says a Russian "disinformation campaign" has already begun over the U.S.-led airstrikes in Syria.Chief Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White said Saturday that "there has been a 2,000 percent increase in Russian trolls in the past 24 hours."The U.S., Britain and France said they launched Saturday's strike to punish Syrian President Bashar Assad for a suspected chemical attack against civilians in the town of Douma outside Damascus. Opposition leaders and rescuers say more than 40 people, including many women and children, died in the suspected chemical attack.Russia's Foreign Ministry says the attack was an attempt to derail an investigation into a purported chemical attack. The Foreign Ministry says facts presented by Russian investigators indicated that the purported attack was a "premeditated and cynical sham."-----------The Pentagon says they believe the airstrikes "attacked the heart of the Syrian chemical weapons program."Lt. Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, the director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon, says the U.S.-led airstrikes against Syria has been "a very serious blow."The U.S., France and Britain launched military strikes on Saturday morning in Syria to punish President Bashar Assad (bah-SHAR' AH'-sahd) for an apparent chemical attack against civilians last week and to deter him from doing it again.Chief Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White says the target choices were "very methodical," calling it a "deliberate decision" to go after chemical weapons facilities. She says the U.S. was confident that they had "significantly degraded his ability to use chemical weapons ever again." 1655

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department inspector general says his team will conduct a review of the conduct of federal agents who responded to unrest in Portland, Oregon, and Washington, D.C.DOJ Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz announced the probe in a statement Thursday afternoon, saying his office will coordinate with the Department of Homeland Security. The watchdog investigation will examine use-of-force allegations in Portland, where the city’s top federal prosecutor and mayor have publicly complained. In Washington, investigators will look at the training and instruction provided to the federal agents who responded to protest activity at Lafayette Square, near the White House.Among the questions being studied are whether the agents followed Justice Department guidelines, including on identification requirements and in the deployment of chemical agents and use of force.“The review will include examining the training and instruction that was provided to the DOJ law enforcement personnel; compliance with applicable identification requirements, rules of engagement, and legal authorities; and adherence to DOJ policies regarding the use of less-lethal munitions, chemical agents, and other uses of force,” wrote Horowitz. The investigation is in response to requests from congressional Democrats and complaints from the public since the agents were sent to Portland, Horowitz said in his statement. 1428

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House Thursday passed a 7 billion defense policy bill that would give the military a 2.6 percent pay hike, the largest in nine years. The bipartisan 351-66 vote sends the measure to the Senate, where a key panel completed a companion measure in a closed-door session on Wednesday. The annual measure sets policies and a budget outline for the Pentagon that are funded by a subsequent appropriations bill that typically follows its parameters fairly closely. The military got a major budget increase under the terms of a bipartisan pact passed earlier this year that the Pentagon's many allies in Washington promise will address shortfalls in military readiness such as pilot training, maintenance of equipment, and procurement of new weapons systems.Readiness issues contributed to a situation in which almost four times as many military service members died in training accidents as opposed to combat. Just this spring, aviation accidents have claimed 25 lives.House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, said that the measure puts a particular focus on pilot training and retention."The key focus of this bill is restoring readiness to ensure that when our men and women in uniform go out on mission, they have the best equipment, the best training and the best support our nation can provide," Thornberry said. The measure would block the use of operational military units or military equipment if President Donald Trump carries out plans for a massive military parade in Washington, D.C., if it would hamper military readiness. 1581
