MARGATE, Fla. — A South Florida woman just couldn't wait to have her baby.Susan Anderson and her husband, Joseph, had almost made it inside Natural BirthWorks in Margate last Friday when baby Julia decided to meet the world early.Doorbell video shared by owner Gelena Hinkley showed the moment of birth.Video shows the mother crouching over in the parking lot while midwife Sandy Lobaina stands behind her.Anderson screamed just as two police officers, who happened to be in the area at the time, walked up to her."She's OK," Lobaina said. "I'm the midwife. She's here to have the baby."Anderson let out a big scream and Lobaina caught the baby as the officers watched in disbelief. After Julia's birth, Anderson was helped into the medical center by the child's father and Lobaina. In the video Hinkley ran into the frame just moments after the birth — but not fast enough."Un-freaking-believable," Hinkley said, seemingly disappointed she missed the party."What was going through my mind was, 'Get in the tub. Get in the tub.' Because I just wanted that relief," Anderson said.Lobaina said she has some crazy births before, but this was a first."Babies sometimes come really quick…and you just got to be quick, put your gloves on and just go," Lobaina said.Although Hinkley missed all the action, she's seen the video and has a good sense of humor."It was the best handoff ever," she said. LOUISVILLE, Ky. – One of the three Louisville police officers involved in the shooting death of Breonna Taylor is being fired. The city’s mayor, Greg Fischer, announced Friday that the police department is initiating termination procedures against officer Brett Hankison, 44.“Unfortunately, due to a provision in state law that I very much would like to see changed, both the Chief and I are precluded from talking about what brought us to this moment, or even the timing of this decision,” the mayor said in a statement.According to a termination letter obtained by WLKY, Hankison was informed of his firing Friday morning. The other two officers involved in the fatal shooting, 47-year-old Jon Mattingly and 42-year-old Myles Cosgrove, remain with the department, but have been placed on administrative reassignment, the Courier Journal reports. As part of a narcotics investigation, the officers used a battering ram to knock down Breonna Taylor’s door as they served a no-knock warrant in the early morning hours of March 13.During the incident, Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, has said that he thought the officers were intruders and fired a warning shot. The officers returned fire, shooting Taylor eight times, and she died in the hall of her apartment. No drugs were found.Thursday, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron held a press conference, where he asked for patience from the public as his office investigates the shooting.Taylor's death is one of a handful of African Americans who have died at the hands of police officers or former police officers in 2020. The killings have prompted massive protests calling for an end to police brutality across the country. 1689

Melania Trump says she and President Donald Trump have faith in judges and the legal system to rule justly -- a statement that appears out of step with the president. At an event Monday in Pennsylvania, the president assailed as “very dangerous” a decision by Pennsylvania’s top court to allow mailed ballots received in the three days after Tuesday’s election to be counted.Later Monday, the first lady addressed a Trump rally in Huntersville, North Carolina. She expressed faith in the doctors, nurses, and scientists working on the coronavirus pandemic.Trump suggested Monday that he might fire Dr. Anthony Fauci after the election.Trump has disagreed with pandemic advice from Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious-disease expert and member of the White House coronavirus task force. 795

Many school districts around the United States have yet to declare what the upcoming school year will look like for students, whether they’ll be heading back into a school building to learn or continue remote learning. Some districts could offer a combination of both. However, as school districts and elected leaders mull over a decision, more and more parents around the country are starting to look into the idea of micro-schooling.“On March 13, our kids jumped off the school bus. Altogether, there’s nine of them in our neighborhood,” said Jennifer Quadrozzi, who lives in Massachusetts. “They were super excited. It sounded like a vacation to them. They had two weeks off, but that turned into the rest of the school year.”Quadrozzi and her 7-year-old daughter spent the end of the school year and all summer socially distancing with a group of parents and kids in their community.“We call ourselves ‘The Bubble,’” said Quadrozzi. To keep her daughter protected in their bubble, she has become one of the many parents around the country considering micro-schooling for the upcoming school year.“Right now, there are three families that are considering it. That age range would be from first grade to third grade, and we would follow the curriculum that was developed by our community, our schools,” added Quadrozzi. With micro-schooling, a few families join together to create a homeschooling pod. Quadrozzi is planning on converting her daughter’s playroom into the classroom. They’re leaning towards paying an educational facilitator to teach the children during the week.“That could be anyone from a retired teacher, to a teacher’s aide, to anyone who got laid off,” said Quadrozzi. One of the concerns around micro-schooling pods is that there are many parents who can’t afford to pay someone else to teach their kids. However, there are some parents finding a way to make micro-schooling pods more affordable.“I am a stay-at-home mom and I realize I am very fortunate to be able to do that, but the other parents in our pod are working parents,” said Gentel Larochelle.Larochelle’s pod has each parent teaching their group of five kids, one day of the week. Not only is their micro-schooling pod model more cost-effective, but it frees up time for some parents who have to work.“If this is something that parents want to do, the options are there for them it just takes a little creativity and a little bit of sacrifice,” Larochelle added.Pods can be formed, organically, with your friends and family, or there are Facebook groups now forming in almost every state around the country where parents are making connections. These two Massachusetts moms have learned the key to creating a pod is starting your search early. You’ll need time to talk with other parents that may be in your group about mostly creating a set of rule or pact for your pod, especially around social distancing outside the created classroom. Because the main reason for micro-schooling is to give kids some socialization while reducing their health risks.“My genuine hope is that this is a one-year thing and that by next fall, things are much, much different,” said Larochelle. 3165
