(KGTV)- Wednesday morning, 59-year-old Leslie Furcron slowly made her way to reporters outside the La Mesa Police Department to speak for the first time since she was shot in the forehead by the police bean bag during a protest and then hospitalized.“I'm a law-abiding citizen and I never came here that night for this to be a part of my story,” she said.Attorney Dante Pride said she was one of the thousands of people in front of the La Mesa Police Department two Saturdays ago where she was peacefully protesting police violence. At the time she was hit, police say officers deemed the gathering an unlawful assembly so they began to use measures to disperse protesters, including tear gas and bean bag rounds. He added that she can't remember everything because of her injury. He did address the Facebook Live video she posted, which appeared to show her throwing a can.“The information that we have now is that she threw a can on the ground and in retaliation for that is when the La Mesa Police Department officers targeted and shot her in the face,” he told reporters.In a timeline released on Tuesday by city officials, a round was fired from about 40 yards away toward her after she was reportedly seen throwing an object at deputies.“There is nothing on camera or anywhere that will show that she made an officer of La Mesa Police Department either fear for their life or injured them,” he told reporters.“I'm a god-serving person. I'm a mother and a grandmother,” he stated.Pride said that his firm has now filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the City to get the names of the officers who were directly involved in the incident.On Wednesday, the La Mesa Police Department sent 10News the following statement:“Chief Walt Vasquez would like to issue the following statement regarding the Leslie Furcron incident: ‘I am sincerely thankful that Ms. Furcron has been released from the hospital and is able to now heal at home with her family. LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) — Police are on the hunt for a man who they say set a La Jolla home on fire before pointing a gun at construction crews. Friday morning, Teresa Zlokarnik woke up to an odd smell coming from across the street. “I don’t know where it was coming from, but I saw smoke, and I saw the firemen going into the house,” Zlokarnik said. For the last few months, she saw the home on the other side of the street go from rubble to almost done. But not anymore. At 9:45 a.m., San Diego Fire Rescue responded to an attic fire, set intentionally.“What? An arson? That’s scary. Oh my God,” Zlokarnik said. The homeowner, who asked not to be identified, claimed he knows who did it. “He didn’t show up for three days, and I fired him,” the homeowner said. The homeowner said he believes the suspected arsonist is a disgruntled former employee who was hired to work on the sheet rock. But when the man came to the site Friday morning and saw his replacements at work, he set the attic on fire. In his 40 years of renovating homes, the homeowner said he has never seen this kind of reaction from an employee, current or former.“He said, ‘My price is my price and if not, you are going to hear from me!’ So I heard from him this way,” the man said. He added that the new subcontractors were held at gunpoint. They waited until the suspect left to call 911.The home on Palomino Circle was supposed to be on the market July 1, 2019, for .9 million. But after what happened today, the homeowner said that an open house would have to be pushed back.“Our heater is gone, the electricity is gone, the plumbing is probably damaged,” he said. The homeowner and his company are now playing catch-up. As for Zlokarnik, her sense of security in her neighborhood is now shattered. “Oh my God, he’s out on the loose? God, I am scared. I am locking my doors,” Zlokarnik said. San Diego Police have not caught the suspected arsonist. 1932

Larry Nassar said he was the victim, not his patients.In more than three hours of interviews with police, obtained by Scripps station WXYZ in Detroit through the Freedom of Information Act, Nassar appears befuddled and defiant when faced with allegations that he abused patients.“It’s like blindsiding someone,” Nassar told a detective. “You’re doing this and you’re doing it for good to help someone and they’re giving you the positive feedback that you’re helping them, how do I know I’m hurting them?”The interviews stem from complaints filed against Nassar in 2014 and 2016.  Both interviews were conducted by officers with the Michigan State University Police Department.In August 2014, MSU police interviewed Nassar after a graduate student complained he sexually assaulted her during an appointment. Nassar had gotten wind of the complaint from one of his colleague, Dr. Jeffrey Kovan.“What else did he tell you?” asked Capt. Valerie O’Brien.“That she felt violated, that I was doing, like I touched her breast and I moved her underwear out of the way. And I’m like, yeah. I do that all the time,” Nassar said.  Nassar brought a laptop to the interview, showing the officer videos of him performing past medical treatments that required contact with intimate parts of women’s bodies, an attempt to convince the detective that everything was fine. “This is a treatment that I lecture on. I lecture on not only here at Michigan State,” Nassar said. “I was the keynote guest speaker in Australia to the Australian Olympic sports medicine for this very technique.”For each allegation made by the young woman, Nassar had the same response: it’s a standard medical procedure. She’s confused. I’m sorry.“She said that she felt like you were massaging her breast and that was not part of the manipulation that you were doing,” O’Brien said.“It’s the rib cage, you know what I mean?” Nassar said. “You’re going to be on the chest wall, you move the breast down, you move the breast down to get down to the wall. It’s like giving someone a mammogram almost.”During the 2014 interview, the officer asked Nassar if he’s ever been accused of abuse before.“There has been a few times where that has been brought up. Okay? And each and every time they were sexually abused,” Nassar said.“So, that’s what, that’s what I’m saying, when they’re uncomfortable about that, there’s been three cases. And all three of them were sexually abused. Okay? So that’s why I’m like, yeah. That’s why I’m like, is there something more? What am I missing?”The 2014 interview lasted more than two hours. MSU police wanted to bring charges but the Ingham County prosecutor declined.Two years later, Nassar was back at MSU police—when another victim came forward.“Has there been another complaint?” Nassar asked. “I’m just like confused right now.”A second complaint had been filed by Rachael Denhollander, a past Nassar patient.“I’m trying very hard to do things where I’m not being nearly as invasive,” Nassar said, saying he learned from the last police complaint. “But it compromises things.  So I’m trying to modify that.”In the 2016 interview, Lieutenant Andrea Munford asked Nassar about details from his past treatment of Denhollander.“Do you ever get aroused during these exams?” she asked, catching Nassar off guard.“Do I get aroused during the exam?” he asked.“Do you ever get an erection?” Munford asked. “The reason why I’m talking about this is because this young girl and her mother both observed this on more than one occasion during treatment.”Nassar replied: “If there was arousal it’s, it’s, it’s…you know what I mean? It would be because of, whatever, I don’t know.”“Well, what do you meant whatever?” Munford asked.“When you’re a guy,” Nassar said, “sometimes you get an erection.”Nassar pled guilty to a series of criminal sexual conduct charges in 2018.  He was sentenced to up to 125 years in prison.  3950

Named for the ancient British site Stonehenge, where the sun lines up among ancient stones on the solstice, the sun lines up with the gap in La Jolla’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography pier on certain days of the year. The natural phenomenon makes for spectacular photos. This summer, Scrippshenge is set to take place August 7 - 9, according to the Photo Ephemeris app. “You might even get the shot on Aug 10/11 also, probably with a partially set sun,” says Stephen Trainor of Crookneck Apps. “You'll see the sunset line is ever so slightly to the north of the pier center: that's what you need, because sunset is the moment the sun disappears below the horizon, hence in order to frame the setting sun between the legs of the pier, it still needs to be just above the horizon, and therefore true sunset has to be just slightly to the north,” says Trainor. LAS VEGAS — Right now, many recent high school graduates are facing a tough question — is it worth it to take on tens of thousands of dollars in debt to attend college during a pandemic?The irony of building credit is that it requires taking on debt — and no one wants to take on debt, especially during the pandemic. But according to one credit expert, there are some simple financial moves that parents can make right now to set up their kids for future financial success.Building credit isn't priority number one for kids, but it could open or close a lot of doors down the road."Good credit can make things easier for you in the future, whether it's securing loans, credit cards with better terms and rates. It might even help your ability to land a job or a desirable apartment," said Nathan Grant, a senior credit industry analyst at CreditCardInsider.com.Grant says that even though kids can't open their own bank account until their 18, parents can start teaching kids about credit long before that, perhaps with a prepaid card."Many of those allow for monthly direct deposits. So, you could have their allowance loaded directly on their card, and that could, at an early age, give them a way to understand budgeting and using a card that has a limit on it to teach them better spending habits," Grant said.Then, as children approach adulthood, Grant says that parents should consider making them an authorized user on a family credit card. Even if parents are not ready to let kids make purchases and payments on the card, Grant says just making them an authorized user will help them build credit."Many credit card issuers offer this, and most issuers report the account's activity in the authorized user's name, whether or not they are actually using the account. So, you can add them as a user and not give them access. It will hopefully build their credit up right out of the gate," Grant said.When kids are ready for their own cards, parents shouldn't just pick the shiniest piece of plastic. Grant says a secured credit card could be a safer option for someone with little or no credit."It uses a refundable security deposit that you fund yourself to fund the account's credit limit, upon approval," Grant said. "So, there's less risk on the issuer's part. So, for somebody who is new to credit or doesn't have any credit history, that could get your foot in the door.Grant said he couldn't offer advice either way on whether grads should pay for college with credit. But he said that anyone that decides to take a "gap year" should try to pay off any existing debts and save for the future.For those that do decide to go attend college, Grant has some general advice."The best rule of thumb, on top of just general responsible use, is just try not to use your credit card for purchases you know you won't be able to pay off before that monthly due date," he said.
