ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — An Escondido home that was engulfed in flames early Friday reignited for a second time later the same day.The home in the 800 block of Via Rancho Parkway first ignited just before 2:40 a.m., according to Escondido Fire Department. Fire investigators believe that the fire started in the home's garage and spread to the attic.One adult, three children, and five pets were inside the home when the fire began. The pets woke up one of the children, prompting the family to escape the home.One of the pets, a cat, died in the fire, according to Escondido Fire. The American Red Cross helped the family find lodging after being displaced.Later Friday, just before 6 p.m., the home re-ignited, prompting another round of firefighting.The cause of both fires has not been identified. 811

Peter and Brunie LaBozzetta were high school sweethearts and soulmates. They were married for 37 years before Peter passed away from kidney issues and a chronic heart condition in February."It was very, very hard. He was my everything," said LaBozzetta.In the depths of her grief, her future daughter-in-law gave her a gift, a silver pendant LaBozzetta filled with her husband's ashes. She hung it in her car. Peter was usually the navigator during a lifetime of drives together. "He was my co-pilot, and I wanted that to continue,' said LaBozzetta.Instead, the ride came to a halt Saturday afternoon in an apartment carport off Borden Road. She got in her car and immediately noticed the pendant was gone."Panic, scared, anger," said LaBozzetta.The flurry of emotions was sparked by a car break-in. LaBozzetta believes she locked the car, but isn't sure. Also stolen was her husband's disabled parking placard, which she was about to return to the state DMV. But it's the theft of that something priceless that's left her reeling. ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - Three weeks after the deadly bluff collapse in Encinitas, the community is urging city and state leaders to make some changes.Three women were killed during the collapse. A tribute was held this week at the Encinitas City Council meeting for the victims. That’s where father and husband Pat Davis spoke out, saying healing will take time. “There will be a new normal in my life without these three gifted women,” says Davis. Davis lost his wife Julie, daughter Anne Clave, and wife’s sister in the bluff collapse. The family was out for a day at the beach on August 2 when the sand and large rocks came crashing down. “We do not have to accept tragedy if it is preventable.”Davis is urging the city to stabilize the bluff by adding concrete walls against the cliffs, sand replenishment or even cutting off some public access to the beach. Some California lawmakers are pushing for the government to pay for the stabilization after congress approved the Storm Damage Project in 2016. It has sat idle since being approved. “I do not want to see what happened to my family happen ever again.”The mayor and other city leaders toured the beaches with representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Thursday, but so far no decisions have been made.  1315

Excessive alcohol use could increase your risk for all types of dementia, particularly early-onset dementia, according to a new study.The study, published Tuesday in the journal Lancet Public Health,?looked at over 1 million adults released from French hospitals between 2008 and 2013 who were diagnosed with dementia, a clinical syndrome characterized by a progressive deterioration in cognitive ability.Using data from the French National Hospital Discharge database, the researchers found that alcohol-use disorders were diagnosed in 16.5% of the men with dementia and 4% of the women with dementia -- over twice as much as in those without dementia for both sexes.Alcohol-use disorders refer to "the chronic harmful use of alcohol or alcohol dependence," the researchers wrote.In order to isolate the role of alcohol use, patients with neurological disorders such as Parkinson's and Huntington's, which can also lead to dementia, were excluded from the study."The most novel result is the large contribution of alcohol-use disorders to the burden of dementia over the lifespan," said Dr. Michael Schwarzinger, a researcher at the Transitional Health Economics Network in Paris and a leading author of the study.The association was particularly strong for those with early-onset dementia, diagnosed when the patient is younger than 65.
