SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SANDAG and Caltrans are warning people about an overnight closure on Interstate 5 beginning Thursday night for work on the Mid-Coast Trolley Bridge. Starting February 28 at 9:30 p.m., all southbound lanes on Interstate 5 will be closed from the interchange of I-5 and I-805 to La Jolla Village Drive. All lanes are scheduled to reopen on March 1 at 5 a.m. The lanes will be closed so crews can pour concrete to construct the structure for the Trolley overpass spanning I-5 at Voigt Drive. SANDAG says traffic signs have been posted in the area detailing the detour motorists can take. The Mid-Coast Trolley Project will extend the Blue Line Trolley service from Old Town north to University City. Nine new stations will also be constructed. 769

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Saturday marked the first weekend San Diego County restaurants were under indoor dining restrictions and they've gotten creative to stay afloat during the pandemic.Monday the Governor announced San Diego County joined the state's watch list due to the spike in coronavirus cases.The county announced bars, restaurants, wineries, movie theaters, zoos, museums, and cardrooms will need to shutter indoor operations Monday night at midnight.Saturday on Harbor Island, Coasterra debuted a "pop up" dining experience on their 'float' that normally hosts events.Executive Chef and Partner in the Cohn Restaurant Group, Deborah Scott thought their event space on the water (dubbed The Float) was a perfect place for extra seating. Their sister restaurant Island Prime had to close it's doors, due to the new restrictions.So the Island Prime, moved to an island.On the 'float' they can seat up to 68 people, that's 68 plates that Island Prime can now sell at a time. Scott said they were booked Saturday, their first official night, but are not filling it to capacity.She said they want to make sure things run smoothly."My biggest fear is that everyone is going to come out here and have dinner and go, 'Can you just move Island Prime out here?'" She said chuckling. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Some places of worship around San Diego County appear to be planning to continue holding services on their property despite the state’s order regarding indoor operations.On Monday, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced pandemic-related restrictions for certain businesses and activities, and places of worship were included on California’s list.Via a Wednesday evening livestream, Kearny Mesa-based Awaken Church broadcasted their service in which there were people in attendance. On their website, Awaken Church promoted in-person women’s prayer meetings held at each of their campuses.ABC 10News asked church leaders to clarify the meeting, and an Awaken pastor said they were holding a prayer protest.At the church’s Balboa Avenue campus, a disclaimer is posted on doors that reads, in part: “By entering this building where COVID-19 virus may possibly exist, despite efforts and attempts at utilizing and employing CDC Public Health Guidelines, you take full responsibility for the decision to attend our services and activities.”A viewer brought a Facebook post by Lighthouse Baptist Church to ABC 10News’ attention. In the post, the Lemon Grove church says, in part: “We are aware of the current mandates of our Governor and County. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Saturday was a picturesque day in San Diego with many people enjoying outdoor dining, but the opportunity is slipping away due to Governor Gavin Newsom’s new stay-at-home orders.“We have a really close community of workers here, and to see it shut down again is really sad,” Abby Pekary said.Pekary has been welcoming guests into Little Italy’s Nonna for more than two years. By Monday, she could be out of a job due to Newsom’s new orders.Pekary is a full-time student at San Diego State University, hostessing to save up to eventually move out of her parent’s house.Her latest obstacle from the state is Newsom’s regional shutdown order, limiting restaurants to takeout or delivery only. The order also forces bars and wineries to close amid COVID-19.“I had a couple people who during the first shutdown they actually moved back to Bay Area because they were living here and just because they were out of a job they had to live with their families,” Pekary added.Unlike the first shutdown in March of 2020, there is no federal stimulus to cushion the fall. Restaurants and employees are left to fend for themselves under the new order. “Of course we're still open for takeout, so if you want to do that, that's always an option for ya.”Restaurants say there likely aren’t enough takers to keep jobs, or at least hours, from being cut. 1364
