(CNS) - A man was in custody Wednesday following his arrest for allegedly killing a fellow patient at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, where both men were being treated for COVID-19, authorities said.Jesse Martinez, 37, was booked on suspicion of murder and his bail was set at million, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.Martinez has been charged with murder, a hate crime enhancement, and elder abuse, according to the sheriff's department, which reported that he is scheduled to appear in Antelope Valley Court on Monday.The crime occurred about 9:45 a.m. Dec. 17 at the facility, where both men were being treated for COVID-19, the sheriff's department reported."(The victim) was housed in a two-person room inside the hospital with the suspect, who was also there receiving treatment," a sheriff's department statement said. "The suspect became upset when the victim started to pray. LA MESA (KGTV) -- A man who mistook his gas for the brakes crashed into the side of the Marque Urgent Care Wednesday.Police say the man was driving his SUV on Lake Murray Boulevard near Dallas Street when he hit the gas instead of braking.The vehicle then struck a tree, hit the Marque Urgent Care, taking out two load-bearing pillars, knocked over two handicapped parking signs and eventually became lodged in an iron railing at a barbecue restaurant.Following the crash, the urgent care facility was evacuated and closed.The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with cuts. 603

LARGO, Fla. — While many of us have spent the year wishing things were better, 93-year-old Virgil Sweet has spent the year trying to make it better.Sweet started by giving away his ,200 government stimulus check."I thought, 'I don’t really have a need for that so I’m going to give it to someone who does,'" said Sweet. ABC Action News did a previous story in May to help Sweet get the word out that he was asking people impacted by the pandemic to write him letters about why they needed the money. That story reached people all over the country. Letters poured in from people who needed help and Sweet picked one family to get his check."I found a lady who has two children. One of them is autistic and she has brain cancer so she got the ,200," said Sweet.But Sweet couldn’t stop thinking about the other heartbreaking letters. So he asked others to donate their checks to help. "We did it the old fashioned way, snail mail. We didn’t use email. Lawyers for Breonna Taylor allege in court records that she was targeted in a police operation to gentrify a neighborhood in western Louisville. Taylor was shot and killed back in March by Louisville Metro Police officers when police conducted a “no-knock raid” on her home. Thinking the police officers were intruders, Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, allegedly shot at police.Officers returned fire, striking, and killing Taylor.According to the lawsuit, which was filed Sunday in Jefferson Circuit Court on behalf of Taylor's family, lawyers said there were plans underway for a "high dollar, legacy-creating real estate development" for Elliot Avenue. Taylor's ex-boyfriend Jamarcus Cordell Glover was renting a home on the street and it created a "roadblock" for the project, court documents stated."The police unit's efforts to clean house on Elliott became so outrageous, unlawful, corrupt, and reckless that a bogus, no-knock search warrant was obtained for the home of Breonna Taylor, a woman with no criminal history, no drugs in her home, no targets in her home, and whose home was more than 10 miles from Elliott Avenue," lawyers stated in the court documents.Lawyer's Ben Crump and his co-counselors Sam Aguiar and Lonita Baker issued a statement about the refiling.“Connecting the dots, it’s clear that these officers should never have been at Breonna Taylor’s home in the first place, and that they invaded the residence with no probable cause," they said in a joint press release. "The officers who robbed Breonna of her life -- and Tamika Palmer of her daughter -- exhibited outrageous, reckless, willful, wanton, and unlawful conduct. As a consequence, the city lost one of its most precious essential frontline workers, who risked her life daily to save her fellow residents in a pandemic. LAND O' LAKES, Fla. — Pasco County, Florida Sheriff's Office is investigating in incident where a Sunlake High School Resource Officer slammed a student during an arrest.PCSO says that the incident occurred Tuesday when the school administration requested the school resource officer, Rich Stackon, remove a student from the cafeteria.Leading up to the incident, school administrators asked the student to return to class several times before the SRO was called in. The student was reportedly skipping class and being disruptive.According to deputies, when the male SRO attempted to place the female student in custody she resisted arrest.In a video, recorded by another student, the SRO can be seen slamming the student to the ground after resisting. 784
