HARTSHORNE, Okla. – A veteran says he is being kicked out of his home by the City of Hartshorne.William Smith has called a camper home for the last eight years on property that he owns. Now, Hartshorne is telling him to pack it all up and find somewhere else to live.William Smith said, "The hookups were here: water, sewer, and electric. Everything was here. I just figured since I had already been living in my RV and it was mine and it was paid for and I got my property paid for, I thought I was good to go for many, many years."Smith was a Navy radar engineer, constantly moving around."To get all of my equipment on an airplane was not a thing that you could really do," he said.He tinkers in his garage on the property, which is the main reason he bought the land, and generally keeps to himself. So, the veteran was surprised when he the police handed him an eviction notice. It said he had 120 days to relocate. Due to a new ordinance passed by the city council, recreational vehicles, travel trailers and campers no longer specify as a structure for permanent living in the city limits. The city claims the reason is "preservation of the public peace, health, and safety.""They told me there's no provision for a grandfather clause or anything that would allow me to stay here," Smith said,Although some may be concerned about property value, most of Smith's neighbors say they would rather see a camper with a well-kept yard next door to them than an abandoned house like several on Smith’s street. Now, the retired veteran is left in limbo, trying to figure out his next move in life."I bought the place so I could retire here and work in my garage to do my piddling and my projects and all that. So, if I have to move this thing out, I really have no other home," he said.Mayor Joy Cline told a local newspaper the city would work with the elderly and disabled and would not leave anyone homeless under this new ordinance. However, she did not respond to a request for comment. 2016

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A Grand Rapids teen is making sure your morning cup of coffee stays brewing for years to come with the launch of her new coffee line, Joven Coffee."Joven means 'young' in Spanish, so that is why we chose it because we're supporting young farmers," said Frankie Volekma, founder of Joven Coffee. At 14, Frankie is the youngest coffee Q grader in the world and is launching the coffee line to support the next generation of coffee farmers."We're just trying to make it a viable career option for a lot of these young farmers because a lot of times it's a low paying career to be in coffee farming," she said.In coffee producing countries like Columbia and regions of Africa, farmers are primarily 57 years old or older.Frankie's concern is those farmers will eventually retire, and there won't be enough young farmers to take their place."I think it's an important issue, and you're going to hear more about it over time," said Frankie's dad, Tim Volekma, owner of Sparrow Coffee and Schuil Coffee. "I feel like maybe we're one of the first people to sort of bringing it to bring light to this issue."As a young professional in the coffee industry, Frankie says she feels it is her calling to use her talents to support young farmers who may not have the same opportunities she does. She teamed up with young farmers in Columbia and a group of women farmers in Burundi in Africa and created two single-origin varieties under the Joven Coffee name."It's really cool for me to be able to be a part of something that is making an impact on the world," she said, "and even if it just helps a couple of farmers, that really makes me feel great about myself, and that I'm making a difference."Learn more about Joven CoffeeThis story was first reported by Savannah Fish at WXMI in Michigan. 1810

HALF MOON BAY, Calif. Getting interrupted by a telemarketing call or a robocall is annoying. Plus, when there is one robo call, another is sure to follow minutes later.  Whether it’s your landline or your cellphone, the Nomorobo service claims it has stopped more than 670 million robocalls and counting.Mary Lee Chin is a believer.  She uses Nomorobo because she used to get nervous when she received robo calls at night, assuming something had happened to her kids. She was already on the "Do Not Call" list, but it wasn’t screening all telemarketing calls. So, she decided to sign up for Nomorobo. The FTC recognized Nomorobo as the winner of its robo challenge, a competition to find new ways to fight back against these annoying calls.Nomorobo weeds out the telemarketer scams, but allows school closings, doctor's office reminders, prescription pickups and weather warning calls to still come through. "It is wonderful, wonderful technological application to free your life up from really annoying calls," said Chin. It’s easy to sign up for the service. You can create an account by downloading the app on your computer or smartphone. You then type in your number and you're good to go. Just know if you don’t like the service, you can turn it off anytime you want. If you have a landline it is free and for cellphones it’s .99 a month.  1380

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (CNS) -- "Gone with the Wind" has been temporarily pulled from HBO Max and will return to the recently launched streaming service with a "discussion of its historical context and a denouncement of those very depictions" of blacks and slavery."'Gone with the Wind' is a product of its time and depicts some of the ethnic and racial prejudices that have, unfortunately, been commonplace in American society," an HBO Max spokesperson said Tuesday. "These racist depictions were wrong then and are wrong today, and we felt that to keep this title up without an explanation and a denouncement of those depictions would be irresponsible."These depictions are certainly counter to WarnerMedia's values, so when we return the film to HBO Max, it will return with a discussion of its historical context and a denouncement of those very depictions, but will be presented as it was originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed. If we are to create a more just, equitable and inclusive future, we must first acknowledge and understand our history."The announcement came one day after director, screenwriter and novelist John Ridley wrote in the Los Angeles Times that HBO Max should consider removing "Gone with the Wind" from its offerings."As a filmmaker I get that movies are often snapshots of moments in history," wrote Ridley, who won a best adapted screenplay Oscar for "12 Years a Slave" in 2014."They reflect not only the attitudes and opinions of those involved in their creation, but also those of the prevailing culture. As such, even the most well-intentioned films can fall short in how they represent marginalized communities."'Gone with the Wind,' however, is its own unique problem. It doesn't just fall short with regard to representation. It is a film that glorifies the antebellum south. It is a film that, when it is not ignoring the horrors of slavery, pauses only to perpetuate some of the most painful stereotypes of people of color.""Gone with the Wind" has drawn criticism from blacks for its depiction of them and of slavery since its release in 1939.The film won 10 Oscars, including best picture and seven others competitively, along with honorary awards for outstanding achievement in the use of color for the enhancement of dramatic mood and for pioneering the use of coordinated equipment in its production."Gone with the Wind" had the largest box office receipts in American movie history, until being eclipsed by "The Sound of Music" in 1966. It regained the title in 1971 following re-releases in 1967 and 1971, then was passed by "The Godfather" in 1972. When adjusted for inflation, "Gone with the Wind" is the all-time box office champion. 2751
