ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) — A shopping trip at a Goodwill store turned scary after the appearance of a phone somewhere it shouldn't be.The incident unfolded in late January on a Saturday afternoon at the store on Alpine Blvd. Amy says she was trying on some clothes in the dressing room. She tells us she looked down and saw a phone camera staring up at her. In a written statement, she says, "By the time I noticed, he quickly removed his phone ... As I opened the door, he walked away."By the time she put on her clothes and reported it to employees, he was gone. Detectives released a surveillance image of a man, identifying him as a person of interest.According to Amy, San Diego Sheriff deputies reviewed surveillance video and determined a man appeared to sneak his phone under the stall several times before he was finally noticed.Amy describes it as "a shock to me." She then felt even more “violated." Investigators say they do not know of any similar incidents at this or other local Goodwill stores.Taylor Herwehe is a frequent shopper at the Goodwill in Alpine. She plans to be a little more watchful and that upsets her."I should feel safe in a dressing room. I should have my mind on purchases and not on the perverts out there," said Herwehe.Deputies say the person of interest may be driving a silver or gray Honda. ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man has died following a deputy-involved shooting in Alpine Monday afternoon.  The man's family later identified him as Daniel Ayala. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, deputies shot Ayala at an apartment complex on the 2600 block of Alpine Boulevard around 3 p.m. during a confrontation.No deputies were injured, sheriff's officials said.According to Lt. Michael Blevins, dispatchers had received several 911 calls reporting a man yelling in the apartment complex. Blevins said at one point he made statements threatening to kill people. A witness told 10News, Ayala had pounded on his door, yelling incoherently.When deputies arrived they say they went up to Ayala's apartment."He exited the apartment with a knife in his hand and advanced towards the deputies," said Lt. Blevins.That's when the deputies opened fire. Blevins said more than one deputy fired a gun, though he said they were still investigating exactly who discharged their weapon and how many shots were fired. 1064

After briefly becoming a Category 2 storm on Monday, Hurricane Sally weakened back to a Category 1 storm overnight as it threatens to swamp Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida panhandle.In its 8 p.m. CT update, the National Hurricane Center said Tuesday that Sally currently has maximum sustained winds of 85 mph and is currently moving toward the Mississippi and Alabama shores at 2 mph.The NHC said the hurricane is about 70 miles south of Mobile, Alabama, and 70 miles southwest of Pensacola, Florida.At 9 p.m. CT, a sustained wind of 58 mph with a gust of 73 mph was reported at Petit Bois Island, Mississippi, the NHC said.The overnight weakening is a welcome sign to forecasters. On Monday evening, NHC forecasted that Sally could produce winds of up to 110 mph before it made landfall.NHC warned that even though the storm slowed down, it will still produce a "life-threatening" storm surge in the central Gulf Coast region of the U.S. The NHC says "historic" flash flooding is possible as it makes landfall.The agency expects the Alabama coast to see the most flooding, including Mobile Bay.Hurricane conditions are expected as early as Tuesday, and the storm is currently projected to make landfall by Wednesday morning. 1239

A woman in New Jersey is facing aggravated assault charges after fracturing a woman's leg over an argument on how to wear a face mask properly, Hackensack Police Department said.Officials say the incident happened at a Staples in Hackensack.Police say Terri Thomas was shown on a surveillance video approaching another woman, who was using a cane, who had told Thomas that her mask wasn't covering her face correctly.Video then shows Thomas grabbing the victim and throwing her to the ground, officials stated.Police said the victim, who had just recently had liver transplant surgery, fractured her leg, which required her to have surgery again.Police arrested Thomas, who is set to appear in court on August 24, officials said. 738
