Lorenzo Liberti is a teenage flag maker."The day that I stop working is a day that a hero could be forgotten," says the 15-year-old from Lakewood Ranch.Using pinewood and prodigious talent, Lorenzo works day and night in his garage hand-carving Heroic Flags, gorgeous, time-consuming tributes to American heroes he sells and donates to help people in need."As long as you're living, you're here for a purpose," he says.Lorenzo has only been creating the flags for the past eight months or so. He's made about 50 so far and raised thousands of dollars for children with special needs, homeless veterans, and Bradenton's Turning Points nonprofit."This is bigger than me," he says. The pandemic has inspired Lorenzo's newest mission: honoring medical workers across the country. He's raising money to try and get one of his flags in a hospital in every state: 50 flags, all across America. He already has a seven-footer in Sarasota Memorial, where his mother works."This is what gets me up in the morning and helps me sleep late at night," he says.To help Lorenzo in his quest, click here.WFTS' Sean Daly first reported this story. 1134

LONDON (AP) — More than 200 scientists have called for the World Health Organization and others to acknowledge that the coronavirus can spread in the air. That change could alter some of the current measures being taken to stop the pandemic. In a letter published this week, scientists wrote that studies have shown “beyond any reasonable doubt" that the virus can "remain aloft in the air.”The letter is entitled, "It is Time to Address Airborne Transmission of COVID-19.""Hand washing and social distancing are appropriate, but in our view, insufficient to provide protection from virus-carrying respiratory microdroplets released into the air by infected people," scientists wrote. The WHO has long maintained that COVID-19 is spread via larger respiratory droplets that fall to the ground. In a statement on Monday, the U.N. health agency said it was aware of the article and is reviewing it with technical experts. 923
LOS ANGELES (AP) — An autopsy report says a Black man shot and killed by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies was wounded 16 times in the front and back. But the report doesn’t shed any light on whether he was on the ground when he was shot. The county coroner's report supplied to The Associated Press on Friday says Dijon Kizzee had four “rapidly life-threatening wounds." The 29-year-old died Aug. 31 in South Los Angeles after deputies tried to stop him for riding a bicycle in the wrong direction. Deputies said they shot Kizzee when he picked up a dropped handgun. Attorneys for the family deny that he picked up the gun. 636
