GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – A 5-year-old girl suffered serious injuries after she was attacked by a bear overnight in east Orchard Mesa. The girl had gone outside around 2:30 a.m. early Sunday to investigate noises she thought were being made by her dog, the girl’s mother told Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers. But the girl’s mother heard her daughter screaming and went outside to see a “large black bear” dragging her daughter, CPW officials said. The bear dropped the girl after her mother screamed at it. Their home is in the east Orchard Mesa area, above the Colorado River corridor, officials said. The girl was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction with serious injuries, CPW said. Radio traffic from first responders said she had been bitten on her back and near her head.Officers were tracking the bear, along with federal wildlife officials, on Sunday morning. CPW said area residents could expect to see law enforcement officials and hounds in the area, and ask anyone to report bear sightings to officials. 1045

Homeowners in City Heights say the neighborhood isn't keeping up with the cost of living. While home prices are on the rise, development plans have come to a halt. Paul Smith is trying to transform City Heights. "They're still equating it to a high crime area or a place not worth investing in," said Smith. Like everywhere else in San Diego, the cost of living there is going up. "People are taking advantage of a housing shortage right now," said Smith. "So they can demand top dollar for their house. Because someone's willing to pay for it."He's been remodeling his home for the past 18 months. Many of his neighbors are doing the same. "We're seeing numbers in the 0's range now, 0, and I'd say probably five years ago you could buy a house for under 0,000."But, he says businesses in the area aren't adapting to the change. "It's constantly having to go over to North Park to look for services or South Park, outside the community."While some shops are moving in, he says it's simply not enough. "New businesses are seeming to move in, but there isn't a massive influx of investments like you're seeing in North Park and other areas," said Smith. "So we're seeing a lot of vacancies here."Those businesses would help build an even stronger community. "I don't always want to have to leave my neighborhood and to another area just to go get groceries, or go to a restaurant to eat," said Smith. For him, it can't come soon enough. "Change kind of is coming, but more needs to happen."The city did work on a redevelopment project in City Heights several years ago. There are currently no plans for future projects in the area on the city's website.  1735

Have you ever lied on a work resume? Well, 75 percent of human resources managers surveyed by Career Builder say they’ve spotted a lie on applicants’ resumes. Here were some of them: 189

From birthdays to graduations to Sunday dinner, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed how families gather, especially when grandparents are involved."If you would have asked me as recently as six to nine months ago, if we would have ever considered buying or owning an RV, that would have probably been the furthest thing from my mind," said Chuck Boetsch. For Chuck and his wife, Robyn, travel has always been a priority both domestic and international. But back in 2017, Chuck had a left lung transplant after dealing with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis for four years, leaving him immunocompromised."One of the things that, being at an advanced age is the desire when you have children and grandchildren is to have the ability to see them. So, being locked down since March, it’s been really difficult not being able to have the personal interaction with our children and grandchildren," said Chuck.Chuck and Robyn live in Tampa with one of their daughters, the other three live in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Colorado."FaceTime and technology are great but it’s no substitute for seeing people individually. So, after thinking about it for quite some time and how we could do it knowing that flying for both of us is out of the question, we decided to rent an RV," said Chuck. They liked it so much, they bought their own. They believe it's the only way to safely see family for at least the next few years. Not only do they not deal with other people at airports or on planes, but they’re staying in a much safer environment."So far, we’ve really kind of enjoyed it, it’s been fun," said Robyn. They say they’ve seen parts of the country they never knew were so breathtaking that they've always just flown over."I didn’t know it was so beautiful. Those states are just absolutely gorgeous," said Robyn. So far, they’ve taken a trip out west to visit family in Colorado. They just got back from a 12-day trip up north stopping to see two of their daughters and their families, even celebrating Robyn's birthday."It’s not without its problems, though. There’s a lot that goes into it in terms of planning, how much medication you take, how much food you take, how many miles can you effectively drive in one day, and where we’re going to stop," said Chuck. However, it’s all worth it when you get to spend time with your family."We miss our family. And that’s the only way we can see them," said Robyn. 2400

HILLSBOROUGH, Calif. (KGTV) — Yabba, dabba, uh-oh.Neighbors of a San Francisco-area home known for its prehistoric theme are up in arms over the lengths in which its homeowner has gone to cement its look.Known in Hillsborough as "The Flintstone House" because of its similarity to the classic cartoon, has a "yabba dabba doo" sign in its front yard and its rounded, colorful facade looks like Fred and Wilma's homestead.RELATED: Escondido's Heartbreak Hotel clad in 50s-era memoribilia, statuesBut installations on the property have pushed things too far according to neighbors and city leaders, KPIX reports."I don't like the way she did the back yard, you know, when I pass by 280 and look at that, you know, this is Hillsborough, not amusement park," neighbor Kathy Park said. Large brown dinosaurs and statues of Flintstones characters have been added to the property over the last year, according to KPIX.RELATED: A taste of New Zealand moves into University Heights with Kairoa BrewingAttempts by the city to contact the homeowner, Florence Fang, have been unsuccessful."I sent her a letter back in January, which she ignored," Mark Hudak, assistant city attorney, said. "And therefore, we had to file a lawsuit because it was clear she was not going to remove any of this work."Fang has reportedly tried to now apply for permits, but the city wants everything removed to start with a fresh slate. 1411
