A mom in Port St. Lucie, Florida said she wants to know how her 9-year-old son wound up at the end of his bus route, miles away from home, without his bus driver noticing him fast asleep in the bus.“I understand children can fall asleep, but at the end of the route why didn’t she check?" Rebecca Council said. "Why did she drive miles and then he wakes up, he’s scared, he’s unsure of where he is. She’s alone with my child.”“I was just scared," Trevor Council said.Trevor got on the bus as normal Wednesday afternoon at Windmill Point Elementary, where he attends third grade."We put so much trust into the school system to take care of our children," Rebecca said.But then, Trevor fell asleep and missed his drop off at Newport Isles just after 3 p.m.Soon after, his mom got a frantic phone call from his stepmom saying Trevor hadn't come home from school."My heart immediately it felt like it dropped into my stomach," Rebecca said.Trevor's dad tried calling the school district and was told his bus had been running on time."The parents having to track down their child when we’re entrusting our school bus drivers with the safety of our children. We should not have to be the ones trying to track down the location of our children," Rebecca said.In the meantime, Trevor’s bus continued five miles away to the Mako soccer fields with Trevor fast asleep in a seat. He eventually woke up while the bus was parked there.“I stand up and say where was I and the bus driver was like, 'What?'" Trevor said. "She didn’t know I was still on the bus.”He said he wrote down his name for the bus driver and ended up being carted around another school’s route before being brought back to his own bus stop, just before 5 p.m.“No one bothered to call the father, the mother, stepmother, no one,” Rebecca said.After about 45 minutes, Trevor’s dad eventually got an answer from transportation.“The guy just told them he’s fine, he fell asleep," Rebecca said.But that answer isn’t enough. Rebecca said she wants to know how this happened.“I want to understand how that’s possible that the bus driver didn’t at least double check and make sure that every child was off the bus," she said.“I just don’t want it to happen to anybody else," Trevor said.St. Lucie County School District didn't respond by the end of the day Thursday to requests for comment. 2368

About 40 percent of babies born in the United States were born to mothers who were not married, in 2015 according to the United Nations.The statistic comes from the UN Population Fund's annual report, which notes that the rate has steadily increased since 1970, when only 10 percent of children were not born to married parents.The trend is consistent with many Western countries — 60 percent of children were born to unmarried parents in the European Union in 2015, an increase from just under 20 percent in1970.The UN notes that while mothers may not waiting for marriage to have children, it's likely that the children are still growing up with two parents. The study notes that in 2010, 1 in 10 European children lived with a single mother, while 1 in 4 in children lived with an unmarried couple.The study also notes that mothers in the United States are waiting longer to have children. Alaska Airlines has resumed flights in Portland and Spokane after temporarily suspending them on Monday due to hazardous air quality.In a blog post on their website, the airline company said they canceled dozens of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air flights in Portland and Spokane.The flights were canceled on Monday at 5 p.m. PT but resumed them on Tuesday at 3 p.m. PT.Thirty-six people have now perished due to the wildfires that are ravaging California, Oregon, and Washington.The Beachie Creek fire, which is currently burning in the northern part of the state since Aug. 16, is 15% contained, according to the Oregon wildfire dashboard. 648

A White House official showed CNN documents that the official claims exonerate Dr. Ronny Jackson from some allegations that he inappropriately dispensed pills and that he wrecked a government vehicle after leaving a Secret Service going-away party.The official said Jackson has returned to the White House Medical Unit but has not returned as President Donald Trump's physician. The official says it is unclear if that will happen. Another physician has been serving as the President's doctor since Jackson's nomination.The White House military office pulled records from the General Services Administration showing three different vehicle incidents, all of which occurred during work hours, involving Jackson from 2013 through 2017. The incident reports involve a bus striking Jackson's government vehicle, a car rear-ending his vehicle and a road rage incident involving another driver banging on Jackson's window. There is no evidence in the documents provided that Jackson was drinking on the job. The official says, "there would have to be a massive cover-up or government conspiracy for him to crash a government vehicle without any paperwork."Other records provided are six audits from Walter Reed Medical Center over the last two and a half years that shows the White House Medical Unit was in compliance with securely storing prescription drugs. The routine audits did make procedural recommendations aside from being in compliance with storing medication."There is nothing [in these documents] that would make you think 'candy man' is appropriate," the official said, referring to Democratic Montana Sen. After the Trump Campaign requested the presidential debates be moved closer to the election because some states will begin mail-in voting while the debates are being held, the Commission on Presidential Debates denied the campaign’s request.In a letter addressed to Trump campaign surrogate Rudolph Giuliani, the commission said it will stick with its planned three presidential debates – the first being held on September 29, and final one on October 22.“ In 2016, when the debate schedule was similar, only .0069% of the electorate had voted at the time of the first debate. While more people will likely vote by mail in 2020, the debate schedule has been and will be highly publicized,” the commission wrote. “Any voter who wishes to watch one or more debates before voting will be well aware of that opportunity.”As part of Giuliani’s request, Trump’s team sought an additional debate this fall.The Trump campaign quickly countered the debate commission’s response.“We are disappointed in your response, but appreciate your openness to a fourth, or earlier, debate ‘if the candidates were to agree that they wished to add to that schedule[,]'" wrote Giuliani. “Your reply makes it clear that the idea of an earlier debate is, in effect, locked away in the basement, alone and diminished.
