A Delavan, Wisconsin woman thought she was gaining weight, but it turned out to be something much more serious. Tina Ferguson had 30 pounds of tumors in her stomach from a rare type of cancer.“I just thought it was middle age and weight gain," said Ferguson. "You have no idea you have something inside you that is killing you."A trip to the doctor gave her a diagnosis of ovarian cancer that was possibly benign. But when the doctor's opened her up to remove it they found something unexpected."I will never forget them coming in the room and saying, 'This is stage 4. You have appendix cancer,'" Ferguson said.On top that, it had ruptured attaching tumors to other organs and leaving a jelly-like substance called mucin in the lining of her abdomen. There was 30 pounds of it inside of Ferguson pushing on her organs."This is the mucin and tumor that's present inside of the abdomen before Tina had her operation," said Dr. Harvershp Mogal, a cancer surgeon at the Medical College of Wisconsin.It took doctors 12 hours to remove all the tumors and mucin. The rare cancer used to come with a very low survival rate. Ferguson was first told she only had months to live.However, Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin used a new kind of chemotherapy called Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) to wash the tumors out."I basically give the patient a heated chemotherapy wash for about 90 minutes. The chemotherapy is heated to 108 Fahrenheit and what the chemotherapy does it takes care of any minute cancer cells that we can't see," said Mogal.Mogal said Ferguson is now cancer-free, just six months later."It's changed my entire outlook on life. You know almost dying, you can't take anything for granted. Every day is a gift," said Ferguson. 1798

A federal judge has dismissed several charges against Dr. Jumana Nagarwala in the historic female genital mutilation case, ruling that the federal law against female genital mutilation is unconstitutional.U.S. District Court Judge Bernard Friedman ruled that Congress did not have the power to enact a federal law that banned female genital mutilation in the United States.Instead, Friedman made the argument that the law was too broad and it violated Congress' powers, as the law does not stand up to scrutiny under either the Necessary and Proper Clause or the Commerce Clause of the US Constitution.He also found that laws penalizing Female Genital Mutilation should be handled at the state level, similar to laws regarding Criminal Sexual Conduct, battery or child abuse.  Shannon Smith is the Defense Attorney for Dr. Nagarwala.  She says the ruling is "absolutely a huge victory. When you actually studied the law they enacted, there was no constitutional basis for them to enact the law. It’s really an issue that should be left to the states."Smith also claims the doctors did not perform Female Genital Mutilation, saying instead they performed a mild form of female circumcision."What Dr. Nagarwala was doing, if we had gone to trial, would have been vindicated that she was not mutilating little girls. While we’re happy with the victory and we’ll certainly take it, there’s a part of me that’s a little disappointed that the public isn’t going to see the evidence brought out at a trial to see that she was never guilty of it in the first place," Smith said.The ruling comes after Friedman also dismissed a "conspiracy to transport minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity" charge in January. That was the only count that could have lead to life in prison for both Nagarwala and Dr. Fakhruddin Attar.Friedman's ruling leaves two counts in place in the case. A judge in New York has temporarily blocked the publication of Mary Trump’s book about President Trump and his family. Judge Hal B. Greenwald in Poughkeepsie ordered Tuesday that no portion of the book can be distributed before he decides the validity of Robert Trump's claims. Mary Trump’s book, Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man was to be published in July by Simon & Schuster. A growing number of members of Congress are fearing for their own safety and they are being threatened at an alarming rate.After nearly being assassinated while at a baseball practice last year with other Republicans, Congressman Steve Scalise found himself the target of another threat this month. Authorities arrested a man, after he left threatening voicemails for Scalise. Investigators said they found 200 rounds of ammunition and books on homemade explosives at the man’s home, along with receipts for an assault rifle and a handgun, according to court records.“Hopefully he gets a serious sentence, because you can’t allow this kind of threats and violence against people based on their political views,” Scalise said during an interview on Fox News.Arizona Congressman David Schweikert has served in Congress since 2010. He said he and his family are dealing with a growing number of threats.“We had more death threats last year in my office--even one towards my little girl--than we ever had in all of the other years combined,” Schweikert said during an interview on “Plaidcast,” a podcast hosted by Rep.
