Their bodies were returned to Beijing Tuesday.Hu called the eight peacekeepers "excellent children of Chinese nation and loyal guards of world peace," and said Chinese people felt grieved about their suffering.Though China and Haiti have not established diplomatic relations, China dispatched an international rescue team to the Caribbean nation and offered emergency reliefs and funds, Hu said."China would work with the international community to support Haiti's relief efforts and post-quake reconstruction," Hu said.Hu appreciated the Austrian government's adherence to the one-China policy and commitment to developing positive ties with China.Looking to the future, Hu proposed both leadership maintain close contacts, governments and legislatures expand communication in a bid to deepen political trust.On the economic front, Hu said both countries should make use of their own advantages and expand cooperation. He encouraged both sides to explore new ways of collaboration and foster new areas of growth."Both sides should increase the contacts between business councils so as to boost the cooperation between small and medium-sized enterprises."He called for joint efforts to stand against trade and investment protectionism and provide a legal guarantee for expanded mutual investment.In response, Fischer said Austria welcomed the visit of Chinese business promotion delegation. He also encouraged both countries to step up aviation cooperation.Hu proposed both countries work more closely in culture, education, tourism, think tank and media, promoting dialogues between different cultures."As next year will mark the 40th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties, China would like to work with Austria to prepare celebrations," Hu said.Hu also pledged to cooperate more with Austria on international and regional issues.Fischer said Austria would like to play a positive role in promoting ties between Europe and China.At the end of talks, the two presidents witnessed the signing of five deals in public health, quality quarantine, science and technology, personnel training and Chinese teaching.

BEIJING, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- China's large textile businesses took in 133.15 billion yuan (19.57 billion U.S. dollars) in profits in the first 11 months of last year, according to figures released by the China Textile Industry Association.The profits were up by 25.39 percent year on year, 36.40 percentage points more than that in the Jan.-Feb. period.The industry posted a total production value of 3.43 trillion yuan and 3.35 trillion yuan in sales value, each up by 9.71 percent and 9.82 percent as all major products saw production rise.The industry also witnessed a slow recovery in export. In the 11 months, garment export fell by 11.02 percent to 154.1 billion U.S. dollars, but the drop narrowed by 0.19 percentage points compared to the first 10 months.By contrast, domestic sale accounted for 79.89 percent in the total sales, up by 3.15 percent.

BEIJING, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- China should further step up efforts to implement the plan to adjust and reinvigorate some of the country's key industries, according to an executive meeting of the State Council held on Wednesday.The meeting was chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao.Progress has been made in 2009 for adjusting and promoting key industries, however the situation remained grave as weak global demand was still affecting China's economy and more efforts were needed to curb overcapacity in some industries, according to a statement released after the meeting.To combat the global economic downturn, China in 2009 adopted a massive plan to adjust and reinvigorate the country's ten key industries covering cars, steel, information technology, logistics, textile, nonferrous metal, equipment manufacturing, petrochemicals, shipbuilding as well as light industry.The implementation of the plan was a long-term task which should focus on the structure adjustment and development mode transformation of the ten industries, said the statement.Vigorous efforts should be made to expand domestic demand, optimize industrial layout, curb overcapacity, eliminate retrograde productivity, push company merger and restructuring, promote technology innovation and deepen reform to facilitate development mode change, it said.

JINAN, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese vocational school blamed for staging cyber attacks on Google and other firms said Saturday the allegations are unfounded."Investigation in the staff found no trace the attacks originated from our school," Li Zixiang, Party chief at Lanxiang Vocational School in Shandong Province, told Xinhua.Students of Lanxiang are still in their winter vacation, Li said.He said Lanxiang has no relationship and does not cooperate with the military, adding that school authorities do not have military backing.He also dismissed the suggestion of involvement of a "specific computer science class" taught by a Ukrainian professor."There is no Ukrainian teacher in the school and we have never employed any foreign staff," Li confirmed."The report was unfounded. Please show the evidence," he said.Li's remarks came after the New York Times reported Thursday cyber attacks on Google and other American firms have been traced to Shanghai Jiaotong University and Lanxiang Vocational School, which the report alleged has ties to the Chinese military.The report, citing unidentified investigators, said there is evidence suggesting a link between the attacks and a computer science class at Lanxiang taught by a Ukrainian professor.Lanxiang, founded in 1984, has about 20,000 students learning vocational skills such as cooking, auto repair and hairdressing.The computer science class offers basic courses about Photoshop, 3D drawing and Word -- not software engineering."It was not until 2006 that our graduates began to join the army. BEIJING, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government's insight and the adjustment of the economic pattern were the two major factors helping China ride out the global economic downturn, scholars said here Sunday.Zhuang Fuling, professor of Renmin University, said the Chinese government made a correct analysis of China's economic situation and took quick and resolute action.At the end of 2007, the central government called for vigilance against possible scenarios of various sorts.
