VALLEY CENTER, Calif. (KGTV) — A highly controversial Valley Center horse rescue is being sued for millions of dollars and now faces eviction.According to the lawsuit filed by the property owner, the nonprofit owes more than ,000 in rent. The suit also alleges that the nonprofit “maliciously and abusively” destroyed parts of the ranch. 10News first reported on HiCaliber Horse Rescue in February when the founder was accused, in part, of raising thousands of dollars to rescue horses from slaughter before euthanizing them by gunshot. The nonprofit said that all the bad publicity hurt its fundraising, so it began shutting down in April. However, it still hasn’t left the property. A judgement has now been issued to evict the nonprofit. In the lawsuit, the property owner is asking for more than million to compensate for property damage and lost rent.10News reached out to both the founder of the rescue and the property owner. They have not replied. 968

Two daycare employees have been arrested in Sioux Falls, South Dakota after surveillance video caught them repeatedly abusing young children during nap time, police say.On Friday, Teresa Gallagher, 31, and Kenedi Wendt, 22, were both charged with 25 counts of abuse or cruelty to a minor. The two women were employees at Little Blessings Learning Center.A parent of one of the children who attended the daycare notified police in late February, according to KARE. The case was referred to the Department of Social Services who contacted the daycare. From there, the daycare reviewed the surveillance video and immediately fired Gallagher and Wendt.According to detectives who watched the video, the two were seen slamming the children to the ground, yanking them by their arms and stomping on them.Police spokesperson Sam Clemens said it wasn't clear what was causing the abuse — even a slight movement from a child could set the workers off, reports state. The children in the video are between the ages of 3 and 4. None of the children required medical care, Clemens said.Gallagher and Wendt were arrested on Friday and each placed on a ,000 cash bond. 1209

Vaping is being linked to an increased risk of Covid-19 among teenagers and young adults, according to a new study.Researchers at Stanford University School of Medicine looked at connections between youth vaping and Covid-19 cases in the U.S. They analyzed online surveys conducted in May by 4,351 people between the ages of 13 and 24.Among teens and young adults who took a coronavirus test, those who vaped were five to seven times more likely to test positive.“Teens and young adults need to know that if you use e-cigarettes, you are likely at immediate risk of COVID-19 because you are damaging your lungs,” said the study’s senior author, Bonnie Halpern-Felsher, PhD, professor of pediatrics. The participants were evenly divided between those who had used e-cigarettes and those who had never used nicotine products.Participants who admitted to using both cigarettes and e-cigarettes in the previous 30 days were almost five times as likely to have Covid-19 symptoms, including coughing, fever, tiredness and difficulty breathing, compared to those who never smoked or vaped.Young people who vaped or smoked, or both, were about two to nine times more likely to receive COVID-19 tests than nonusers.Among those surveyed who had taken a Covid-19 test, those who had used both e-cigarettes and cigarettes in the previous 30 days were 6.8 times more likely to test positive for the coronavirus.“This study tells us pretty clearly that youth who are using vapes or are dual-using [e-cigarettes and cigarettes] are at elevated risk, and it’s not just a small increase in risk; it’s a big one,” said the study’s lead author, postdoctoral scholar Shivani Mathur Gaiha, PhD.Researchers hope their study will be a warning about the dangers of vaping, and also prompt the Food and Drug Administration to consider tighter regulations on vaping products. 1856
