SEOUL, South Korea — North Korean state media say leader Kim Jong Un urged officials to maintain alertness against the coronavirus, warning that complacency risked “unimaginable and irretrievable crisis." SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – On a windy and cold November day, there was a feeling of winter in the air in South Jordan, Utah.“Yeah, it’s really windy,” said Mohan Sudabattula with a laugh. “I was not hoping for this weather.”However, with a U-Haul truck full to the brim, you can’t help but feel a sense of warmth.“We collect gently used, durable medical equipment from patients who no longer need them,” Sudabattula said. “We clean them up, refurbish them and get them out to patients all around the world.”Mohan Sudabattula started Project Embrace three years as a college sophomore.“I got a lot of mixed reviews on the idea at first,” he said.He’s still an undergrad and with his heavy course load, he also does some heavy lifting.“My hands are already so raw,” he said as he examined his hands between moving medical equipment.When we caught up with Project Embrace, the group of volunteers was gearing up for a delivery to the Navajo Nation.“We’ve got great wheelchairs, canes and crutches,” volunteer Lexy Nestel said as she glanced over the mountain of donated equipment. “I believe health and wellness should be available to everyone.”Back in March, Project Embrace was about to head to Seattle for a donation when COVID-19 hit hard. They put a pause on the project for a while, but then saw demand skyrocket“With how overwhelmed the hospital systems are, you have people show up who need a walker or wheelchair but then have to wait days, sometimes weeks, in order to get that,” Sudabattula explained.These days, their work includes three rounds of sanitizing even the tiniest of spaces found.“Most people are going to be spending their time scrubbing,” Sudabattula said as he passed out toothbrushes to volunteers to clean in between screws on the medical equipment. “COVID has been awful, but at the same time, it’s really unified the community in wanting to support one another.”Despite all the changes and uncertainty in the country, Sudabattula said their mission remains the same.“You will find us wherever the most pressing need is,” he said.No matter the temperature. 2085

Someone out there is sitting on a lottery ticket worth more than .5 billion, but has not stepped forward to claim the prize, according to ABC News. On Oct. 23, a single winning ticket was purchased in South Carolina for the largest Mega Millions jackpot in history. The ticket is also the single most valuable lottery ticket in US history. "We have not heard that the winner in South Carolina has come forward," Mega Millions administrator Seth Elkin told ABC News. The winner has 180 days to claim the prize. That means the winning ticket does not have to be claimed until April. If no winner comes forward, each participating state in the Mega Millions game will get back all the money that state contributed to the unclaimed jackpot, the lottery says on its website. The amount of money that goes unclaimed in state lottery programs is quite staggering. Employers need to be looking at the state and local laws to determine whether masks are mandatory. I know that several states have mandatory mask requirements in public spaces, so of course they’ll want to look at those laws to make sure they're complying with them," says Amber Clayton, Knowledge Center Director for the Society for Human Resources Management.Clayton says employers will also need to consider employees who may not be able to wear a mask, whether it be for medical or other reasons."Employers may have to potentially provide a reasonable accommodation in those situations. That might look like allowing the person to work from home, taking leave or modifying their workspaces where they're working within an area that is maybe not as much public facing," says Clayton.For medical reasons, employers could require a doctor's note. Whether it's an employee handbook or company-wide email, employers should have some type of documentation so employees and any customers coming into the office are aware of expectations when it comes to wearing face coverings. Valerie Keels, who heads up her HR department at Gavi in Washington, DC, has developed a mask-wearing policy for her office."The building has imposed those restrictions, as well, in the common areas so when people come into the building they have to wear a mask. When they go into the elevator they have to wear a mask. So it's just consistent with what's going in the building," says Keels.Keels has what they call a "Code Red" which means people can come into the office if they register online. It helps them keep track of the number of people in the office space. Once they get to the office, their temperature is taken and they're given a mask to wear for when it's needed.When you're in an enclosed office space, you can take off your mask. "And even when you're at your own work space because we're also respecting social distancing," says Keels.As for enforcing a mask policy, some businesses could come across people who disagree with a face covering policy."Employers have the responsibility to keep the workplaces safe for their employees and if this is something that's required and the employee refused to wear it, then there needs to be something in place to address that - whether it's sending the employee home or providing leave, or making modifications to the worksite," says Clayton.It's important for employers to work with people and their individual situations before resorting to reprimands.
