SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One person was shot and killed Friday at the Linda Vista Recreation Center, San Diego Police said.The shooting happened about 5 p.m. at the facility at 7064 Levant St., near the intersection of Linda Vista Road and Genesee Avenue.A witness told 10News he heard the shots and saw a teenager with a gunshot wound to the chest and someone performing CPR.RELATED: 17-year-old shot during Linda Vista drive-by shootingVideo from Sky10 showed police tape blocking off part of the parking lot near the tennis courts and officers with flashlights on the area's walkways.No information was immediately available about the shooter.Bystanders said this type of violence is happening at least once a month and blamed homeless people and gangs.This is the fourth shooting since May in Linda Vista. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Parents say they're disappointed after witnessing what they say was disrespect of the flag and national anthem at a high school basketball game. One parent captured video of the incident at Lincoln High School. They have a student at St. Augustine and say it was the second time they witnessed Lincoln High players sitting down during the anthem. The parent described the players as talking and joking around during it.A grandfather at the game, who is a Vietnam veteran, says he too was offended. He wrote a letter to Lincoln's principal and wants to sit down with him to discuss the issue. The veteran believes the players were disrespectful and says their actions were not in line with the school's mission statement.10News spoke with the school's basketball coach by phone who says he doesn't believe students meant to be disrespectful. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are investigating an altercation at a University Heights apartment complex that left a man dead early Thursday morning.The incident was reported shortly before 4 a.m. at an apartment building on Howard Avenue near Mississippi Street, according to San Diego police.Police said someone reported two men fighting, but when officers arrived both men were injured.The two men were taken to the hospital, but one of them died from apparent stab wounds, police told ABC 10Ne 502

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Nearly 6,000 San Diego workers have reportedly been laid off amid the coronavirus outbreak, but the actual number could be 60 times higher, according to officials at the San Diego Workforce Partnership. The agency estimates there are at least 350,000 San Diego workers at risk of losing their jobs, the majority of them in service sectors like hotels, restaurants and retail, where there is no option to work from home. However, the state has eliminated the 60-day public layoff notification requirement amid the outbreak, so it is unclear how many people are no longer working. The partnership is now taking a multi-pronged approach to getting people back to work. It is focusing on finding employers who have a need today, such as those in delivery, transportation and logistics. It is also working with Amazon to set up mobile job expos. The others are restaurants and small businesses such as dental offices and acupuncture providers. In City Heights, the Super Cocina restaurant has seen its sales drop 75 percent amid take-out only restrictions. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One young man was named the newest recruit of the San Diego Police Department Wednesday.SDPD's newest officer, five-year-old Liam, was sworn in by Chief David Nisleit as part of a ceremony hosted by the department and Make-A-Wish San Diego.Liam, who was born with a congenital heart defect, began his first day on the beat soon after his ceremony. He and his partner received a call to help capture a bank robber. Bank of America also partnered with Make-A-Wish to offer up a location for a bank robbery and arrest scene, where the two cops took in the suspect.Liam and his partner then returned to police headquarters to interview the suspect.The Make-A-Wish event was held just one day before the department celebrates its 130th anniversary. 770
