BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Linagyu Thursday urged efforts be made to supervise the distribution and use of the living allowance for orphans.Tighter supervision should be maintained to make sure that basic living allowances were paid to orphans in a timely and sufficient manner, said Hui in Beijing at a high-level conference discussing the work to support orphans.The central government has allocated over 2.5 billion yuan (around 379 million U.S. dollars) as dedicated funds for the allowance policy in 2010, according to a circular jointly issued by the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the Minister of Finance in late November.Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu (C) speaks during a national teleconference on the orphan supporting work, held by the State Council of China in Beijing, capital of China, Dec. 30, 2010. TOKYO, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived in Japan Friday for the 18th Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), which is slated for Saturday and Sunday in Yokohama.Hu and his wife, Liu Yongqing, were welcomed by senior officials from the Japanese Foreign Ministry at Haneda airport.Chief Executive Donald Tsang of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cheng Yonghua were also present at the airport to greet Hu.President Hu, who flew into Tokyo from Seoul after attending the fifth summit of the Group of 20 (G20), was traveling by car to Yokohama.With the theme of "Change and Action," this year's Economic Leaders' Meeting will focus on the regional economic integration, a growth strategy for the Asia-Pacific region, human security, the economic and technical cooperation, and the assessment of achievement of Bogor Goals by APEC economies, according to the meeting agenda.The Bogor Goals call for free and open trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific by 2010 for industrialized economies and by 2020 for developing economies. BEIJING, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator, Wu Bangguo, met with his Maldivian counterpart Abdulla Shahid in Beijing Monday and called for closer relations between the two nations and the two parliaments.Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, said the growth of bilateral relations in recent years had yielded substantial benefits for the two peoples.Wu said China valued ties with the Maldives and was willing to maintain friendly exchanges and cooperation at all levels in an effort to expand political mutual trust and economic and trade cooperation in fields such as fisheries, tourism, and infrastructure construction.China would encourage Chinese companies to further participate in the Maldives' national construction and more Chinese tourists to visit the country, Wu said.Wu voiced his hope for stronger coordination between the two nations on international issues in order to build a relationship that would be a model for relations between big and small nations.Wu suggested the two legislatures promote dialogue and exchanges of views among members on successful experiences of national construction so as to inject new vitality to the development of bilateral relations.Shahid, speaker of the Maldivian People's Majlis, said the Maldivian people treasured the friendship of the Chinese people, and the rapid growth of the Chinese economy offered inspiration to developing countries, including the Maldives.Shahid pledged the Maldivian parliament would continue to play a constructive role in promoting bilateral relations.Shahid is leading a Maldivian parliamentary delegation to China at the invitation of Wu.
