BALTIMORE - Chyler Leigh may be known for her role in Supergirl, but on Saturday she had the opportunity to meet real-life superheroes in Baltimore. The former Grey's Anatomy actress teamed up with her husband, Nathan West, and the organization Singing for Superheroes to help raise money for the Johns Hopkins Children's Center. Leigh and West are in a band, East of Eli, and on Saturday they filmed a music video with cancer patient Ashley Hackman. “This is an opportunity to bring some joy, some brightness, some light, in a place where obviously it’s great to get a little extra sunshine I’m sure," said Leigh.Singing for Superheroes was started by Steven Battey and Alix Petersen in 2016, and it uses music to empower children with illness and disabilities. They have made multiple music videos with cancer patients across the country to raise money, awareness, and spread their message of empowerment. “It’s amazing though because we are parents, we have three kids of our own, and that was a huge reason to do this when it came about. To have an opportunity to work on this, it was a no-brainer, we had to do this because it was that important to us. You know to lend that hand, give some love, spread some love,” explained West. And soon after arriving at the hospital, West and Leigh learned they wouldn't be the only ones spreading love and hope. “What’s funny too is we come here to spread that love and give the gift that keeps on giving with the music, but at the same time these kids keep on blessing you over and over again. I’m going like, ‘Really? You are so happy and amazing and I want to just take you home, you know?’ It’s incredible,” West said. "Oh they are warriors. Oh my goodness, just to see the joy on their faces, and it’s just sometimes even the little things, but how strong these kids are it’s absolutely amazing. We just keep saying over and over again we are so honored to be a part of it,” added on Leigh. The song in the music video is titled "No giving up" and aims to spread the message that those touched by cancer are not alone and to keep pushing through. "We just want to encourage kids to never give up, or anyone going through what they are going through with cancer," said Battey who helped write the song. Battey is known for writing songs for artists like Justin Bieber, Madonna, Flo-Rida, Bruno Mars, and more. He lost his mother to cancer in 2004 and said he thought of her when writing this song. "We just wanted to encourage the kids that are going through it to keep on fighting, and we thought "No giving up" was the perfect title,” Battey continued to say. “The song really transcends. Yes, we are here with the kids and cancer and stuff, but it can go far beyond that. This song is really relatable in so many ways. AURORA, Colo. – Police confirmed Monday afternoon that the man they shot and killed early Monday morning is believed to have shot and killed another man who’d broken into his home minutes earlier.The police shooting happened around in Aurora, Colo. Officers had been called the house on reports that a man had broken into the home.“Officers arrived to a very chaotic and violent scene,” Aurora Police Chief Nick Metz wrote in a news release issued Monday afternoon.Metz said officers who arrived at the scene heard gunshots inside the home and ran into an armed man. An officer shot the man, who died at an area hospital.After clearing the scene, according to Metz, officers found a juvenile injured inside and a man shot dead on the bathroom floor. The child was taken to a hospital for “serious, but non-life-threatening injuries” caused by the intruder, he said.Both men’s identities will be released by the Adams County Coroner’s Office, Metz said. The officer who shot the resident of the home is on standard paid leave.The investigation into the shooting will be conducted by the Aurora Police Major Crimes Unit, the Denver Police Department and the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. BALTIMORE - A woman and man are dead and at least seven other people are seriously hurt after a gas explosion caused three homes to collapse Monday morning in Northwest Baltimore.As rescue crews and K-9's continued combing through the rubble overnight, a man's body was discovered just before 1 a.m. Tuesday. He is the second reported death related to the incident.A family member on Tuesday afternoon confirmed to WMAR-2 News, that the man found was 20-year-old Morgan State student Joseph Graham.Authorities haven't officially released the names of any of the victims.The explosion happened just before 10 a.m. near the Plaza in the area of Labyrinth and Reisterstown Roads, prompting a three-alarm response from 200 rescue crews from multiple cities and surrounding county agencies.About 200 people were impacted, including 30 who needed temporary housing.The American Red Cross is helping them with food, shelter, transportation, and medical services, while the city works to make sure the homes still standing are structurally sound.PHOTO GALLERY: DEADLY EXPLOSION TURNS NW BALTIMORE HOMES INTO RUBBLEBGE was able to turn gas off in the area by 9 p.m. Monday.Meanwhile, some electric lines were damaged causing power outages, but they've since been repaired with all power having been restored in the neighborhood.Investigators are looking into whether any customer-owned home utility appliances potentially contributed to the explosion.So far BGE says they've been unable to find any leaks or problems with gas mains and meters in the area.Prior to the explosion, BGE said they received no reports of gas odors or leaks at any of the homes in the last five years.The area’s gas infrastructure was installed in the early 1960s and was last inspected in July of 2019.Maryland's Vital Records building was forced to close for the rest of the day, following the explosion.WMAR-2 News spoke with two witnesses who explained what they heard and saw, and how they rushed to help.
