SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man waiting for an Uber was stabbed in San Diego Sunday morning, according to San Diego police.At 2:08 a.m., a 37 year-old male was waiting for his Uber ride on the corner of 8th Avenue and B Street when he was approached by two female suspects and a male suspect, all in their 20s. The victim began talking to one of the women when she reached into his pocket and stole his cellphone. The suspects ran away and the victim chased them. After he caught up with them, the male suspect turned and jabbed the victim in the right arm.The victim began to bleed and witnessed the three suspects running away and getting into a red Chevy Camaro that fled westbound on B Street. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities warned the public Friday to beware of crooks who have telephoned Poway-area residents in recent weeks and tried to swindle them out of money by falsely claiming that the victims were in arrears due to outstanding arrest warrants or other obligations to local government coffers."These scammers and impersonators sometimes provide the victims with genuine Sheriff's Department phone numbers, and in the past they have actually used the names of real department employees," sheriff's Lt. Christopher Collier said. "They may sometimes even want to arrange a meeting in the parking lot of a government building or station in an effort to appear legitimate."No employees of the regional law enforcement agency -- or of any other county body -- contact members of the public by telephone to discuss such matters, Collier noted."Nor would any employees ever try to arrange a meeting to allow (a) payment to be made," the lieutenant said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A transient who allegedly overpowered a woman in the East Village, dragged her into some bushes and sexually assaulted her before running away pleaded not guilty Tuesday to three felony charges, including assault with intent to commit rape.Gary Ryan Cushinberry, 51, who is on felony probation for robbery and failing to appear in court, was ordered held without bail.Late on the evening of Nov. 5, Cushinberry allegedly grabbed a 26-year-old pedestrian walking by herself in the 400 block of 13th Street, pulled her off the sidewalk and assaulted her before fleeing.Detectives identified Cushinberry -- a recent transplant from Indiana who has been living on the streets of San Diego -- as the alleged perpetrator by means of ``several tips and leads,'' Lt. Gavin Newsom announced Friday that the city of San Diego is one of four cities in the state that will receive 0,000 in state funding to support residents affected by power shutoffs due to the threat of wildfires.While visiting Sonoma County emergency responders, local officials and residents affected by the Kincade Fire, Newsom announced the establishment of the Local Government Public Safety Power Shutoffs Resiliency Program, which will provide funding to local governments to maintain power service to high- risk areas affected by power shutoffs.San Diego, Los Angeles, San Jose and Oakland will each receive 0,000 in state funding through the program and all 58 counties in the state will receive at least 0,000 each. An additional million will be made available through a competitive grant process for incorporated areas of the state and .5 million will be available for tribal governments.The state included million in one-time funding in the state's 2019 budget to maintain public safety and limit the effects of power shutoffs by companies like San Diego Gas & Electric and Pacific Gas & Electric. The thief, who appeared to be in his late 20s or early 30s, approached a teller at the US Bank satellite office in the Albertsons store in the 2900 block of Alpine Boulevard and presented a demand note about 4 p.m. June 4, according to the FBI. After the clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, the robber left the grocery store and fled in a blue Dodge Ram pickup truck. The perpetrator was described as a black-haired, roughly 5-foot-5-inch Latino in blue jeans, a black shirt, tan shoes and a black baseball cap with an ``LA'' logo on the front.
