LONDON — A woman was killed and at least four other people were injured when a 65-foot crane collapsed in east London, authorities say.The London Fire Brigade says the crane fell onto a block of apartments under development and two houses on Wednesday. The brigade says the deceased woman was found on the first floor of one of the houses and confirmed dead at the scene.The London Ambulance Service has confirmed that two people have been taken to hospital with head injuries and two others were treated at the scene.The brigade’s assistant commissioner, Graham Ellis, says urban search and rescue crews were undertaking “a complex rescue operation” and using specialized equipment to search the properties, including a drone to provide aerial imagery.Crews and a team of specialist paramedics who work in hazardous environments were also at the scene in the Bow neighborhood. LOS ANGELES (AP) — California is suing a nonprofit that sends care packages to combat troops, accusing it of misleading donors about its affiliations, engaging in political activity and paying fees to its directors' for-profit companies.The lawsuit alleges the charity Move America Forward invaded the privacy of injured veterans by using their names and stories to solicit donations without their permission and falsely claimed to have a partnership with the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center."Our troops and their commitment to our country should never be exploited in deceitful solicitation gimmicks, but unfortunately they are," state Attorney General Xavier Becerra said Wednesday.The lawsuit alleges the charity violated IRS rules by providing free office space for the political action committees Move America Forward PAC and Tea Party Express.The charity also is accused of using charitable donations to endorse the political campaigns of former Republican U.S. Rep. Michael Grimm, who ran unsuccessfully for Congress in New York last year after pleading guilty to tax evasion, and Josh Mandel who briefly ran for the Republican nomination for a U.S. Senate seat in Ohio.Becerra said federal rules ban charities from backing political candidates.Move America Forward said the organization has always been completely transparent and provides proof of tax filings and independent audits on its website."Shame on Attorney General Becerra for his unrelenting harassment," Melanie Morgan, chairwoman and co-founder of Move America Forward, said in a statement. Becerra said his office will pursue further penalties but that they wouldn't be criminal because it would be hard to prove intent.Senior Assistant Attorney General Tania Ibanez highlighted the number of military or veterans charities that are operating as unregistered or delinquent, meaning they failed to supply their annual reports to the state.An investigation from June 2018 to June 2019 revealed that over 1,000 charities in California have names relating to the military and 554 were found to be delinquent, Ibanez said. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A bout of overnight rain will have the potential to unleash rockslides, mudslides and minor debris flows in areas recently stricken by wildfires, National Weather Service forecasters said.The NWS said there's a chance of rain Wednesday evening, a virtual certainty of it after midnight amid southwest winds of around 15 miles per hour and a 50 percent chance on Thanksgiving morning, followed by a partly cloudy afternoon.Between seven-tenths of an inch and an inch-and-a-quarter of rain are expected to fall on coastal slopes and in the foothills, which could trigger slides over areas denuded by the Woolsey Fire in L.A. and Ventura counties and the Hill fire in Ventura County, forecasters said. LONDON — Shares in the company that owns the Regal, Cineworld and Picturehouse cinemas in the U.S. and Britain have fallen as much as 58% after it will temporarily close its venues after release of the latest James Bond film was postponed due to the pandemic. The company said the Bond delay left it with too few blockbusters to attract customers. Cineworld Group Plc said Monday that 536 Regal cinemas in the U.S. and 127 Cineworld and Picturehouse venues in the U.K. will close on Thursday. Some 45,000 employees are affected.
