WUHAN, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in central China Friday, saying he expected their two-day informal meeting will open a new chapter in bilateral ties.

Representatives agreed that they will advocate the Shanghai Spirit of "mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, mutual consultations, respect for cultural diversity, and pursuit of common development," and work to inject new impetus to the common prosperity of the region.

"Human development has been very positive in China. China is committed to solving the problem of unbalanced development. We have seen the targeted anti-poverty program, which is really helping people in remote areas and groups that have been left behind," he said.

Shen Chunyao, head of the Commission for Legislative Affairs of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, made the remarks at a conference on China's constitutional system in Beijing.

The meeting also calls to optimize customs clearance procedures and promote Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) mutual recognition with other countries to better facilitate imports. New approaches to importing trade were called for at the meeting, and cross-border e-commerce and border trade will be further developed. At the same time, a credit information system in foreign trade as well as enhanced intellectual property rights protection are needed so that foreign trade and foreign investment will complement one another.
