SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego school was briefly locked down after shots were fired near the school Monday afternoon. According to San Diego Police, officers responded to the 5100 block of Ewing Street near San Diego State University after 1 p.m. to investigate reports of shots fired. Due to the investigation, the nearby Language Academy was briefly placed on lockdown. Witnesses say they heard five or six shots being fired. Police also found a small amount blood in the area, but no victim was located. 517

That’s the claim in court records against Argosy University, which operates The Art Institute of California in San Diego. Court documents accuse the university of charges including changing submissions to the Department of Education to get student financial funds. Argosy University operates more than a dozen locations across the country, including the Art Institute of California in Mission Valley. The Department of Education sent millions of dollars to Argosy. The filing was made on behalf of a court-appointed receiver, the independent outside party to handle the university’s finances. 10News reported earlier that the Education Department stopped all financial aid to Argosy. In July of 2018, the Art Institute in Mission Valley stopped enrolling new students. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego resident is one of three patients across California infected with salmonella linked to an herbal supplement.The 44-year-old resident is the latest patient in the multi-state outbreak, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Service Agency.The supplement, kratom, is used as a stimulant and opioid substitute. It's also known as thang, kakuam, thom, ketom, biak, and Mitragyna speciosa, according to county health officials.RELATED: 28 sick in salmonella outbreak linked to kratom, CDC saysThe San Diego patient fell ill in January but has since recovered. They were not hospitalized, officials said.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has identified at least 40 cases of salmonellosis in 27 states. Fourteen patients have been hospitalized. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego woman is among those killed in the Conception boat fire off Santa Cruz Island, her coworkers in Coronado told 10News Tuesday. A manager at Nicky Rottens restaurant at 100 Orange Ave. identified Nicole Quitasol as one of the victims of the deadly fire. Quitasol was on the dive trip with four relatives, her coworkers posted on Facebook. "Nicole has worked with our Nicky Rottens Coronado family for years, and she will be remembered as an adventurous & loving soul," wrote Bryn Butolph, who described Quitasol as smart and loving."She will be greatly missed," Butolph added. He told 10News Quitasol was devoted to her dog, Peanut Butter.The family of five was among 34 people presumed dead in the blaze. All were sleeping below deck when the fire started early Monday.
