NAIROBI, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Kenya and China vowed to strengthen bilateral cooperation on Monday during a meeting between senior officials of the two friendly countries.     Wang Jiarui, visiting minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC)'s Central Committee, said the Chinese ruling party would engage Kenya's political parties --the Orange Democratic Party-Kenya, the Party of National Unity and the Orange Democratic Party in support of the stability of the Kenyan Grand Coalition Government.     Wang said his country valued the eastern African nation as an important partner in the continent.     "Our bilateral relation is very cordial as this has been demonstrated by sincere trust and mutual cooperation between the two countries. We also expect to explore inter-party cooperation to enable the two countries exchange views and address issues of mutual interest," Wang said in talks with Kenyan Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.     He said the Sino-Kenyan friendship dates back to ancient times and that the past four decades of bilateral diplomatic ties have witnessed great development of friendship and successful cooperation in such fields as politics, infrastructure and trade, as well as mutual support in international affairs.     "We will work with the three parties that form the ruling coalition government. We know that these three parties are key to the stability of this country. Without stability there can be no development," he said.     Musyoka expressed thanks for China's assistance for Kenya in the past years and introduced Kenya's efforts to push forward regional peace, stability and integration.     Musyoka said Kenyan political parties have a lot to learn from CPC in spurning economic growth.     "I am aware that China's booming economy is largely inspired by the effective management of the CPC of the country's economic affairs," he noted.     The vice president said Kenya and China will work together to find ways of resolving the challenges facing their citizens.     He also thanked China for refurbishing the road linking the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the UN headquarters in Nairobi and the construction of stadia in Kenya.     "Today China is constructing various roads across the country including the one from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the United Nations headquarters. China has also oil exploration companies and with all these, we hope to expand other areas of cooperation and reach mutual understanding to enable both sides to benefit," he said.     Musyoka told Wang the east African nation appreciates the huge investment China has put into Kenya's infrastructure.     He expressed hope that more Chinese tourists will visit Kenya as part of efforts to balance trade, while urging China to launch direct flights to Nairobi to help spur economic growth and boost the country's tourism.     Musyoka pledged that the Kenyan coalition government attaches much importance to bilateral relations with China and will further strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields.

BEIJING, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang Monday called on local governments and government agencies to improve production safety and crack down on illegal practices.     The number of accidents and casualties had fallen this year, Zhang said in a teleconference aimed to improve production safety.     However, some industries still had potential dangers, he said.     Zhang urged authorities to enhance work safety supervision and remove hidden dangers at work places to avoid accidents.     Any illegalities, especially in major industries such as coal mining, construction, and fireworks production, must be eliminated.

BEIJING, June 13 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese mainland confirmed 22 new A/H1N1 flu cases Saturday, bringing the total to 165, with no reports of deaths. Four new cases each were confirmed in Guangdong and Fujian provinces, three each were confirmed in Shanghai and provinces of Sichuan and Hubei, and two each in Zhejiang and Hainan provinces, the Ministry of Health said in the latest report. BEIJING, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The international community has continued to condemn the July 5 riots in Urumqi, the capital of China's northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which has left 192 people dead.     Religious leaders and some experts also voiced support for the joint efforts by the Chinese government and various ethnic groups to safeguard ethnic unity and social stability.     Regional leaders of two major Islamic organizations -- Nahdatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah -- in the Indonesian city of Surabaya said Islam advocates peace and opposes violence.     Muslims love peace, pursue peace and take real actions to maintain peace and oppose any violent and terrorist actions, they said Tuesday while meeting Wang Huagen, Chinese general consulate in Surabaya, Indonesia's second largest city.     The two Islamic leaders also expressed the hope that social order in Urumqi could be restored soon.     Pierre Picard, a human geologist and China expert at the University of Paris, said he was shocked by the July 5 incident which was a violent crime orchestrated by foreign terrorists and separatist forces.     China has the right to take actions to maintain national stability and restore social order and the measures it has taken were appropriate, he told Xinhua.     No country in the world can tolerate attacks by terrorist forces, he added.     The Al-Riyadh newspaper, one of the leading newspapers in Saudi Arabia, said in a report on Tuesday that the July 5 incident in Xinjiang was a crime of violence that was premeditated and organized.     The unrest was not an ethnic issue nor a religious one, but a case against public order incited by a few separatists and mobs, it stressed.     Bahrain's Al-Ayam newspaper shared the view. In     a report published on Tuesday, it said the incident was by no means an ethnic or religious issue, but a grave violent crime involving beating,     smashing, looting and burning premeditated, organized and instigated by the separatist forces both in and outside China.     The purpose of the separatists is to sabotage ethnic unity and social stability in Xinjiang, said the report.     The local government of the autonomous region has adopted effective measures in accordance with law to stop the violent crimes in a bid to safeguard social stability and resume normal social order as well as protect local people's rights and interests, it said.     The report said that the Chinese government had introduced and carried out a series of ethnic and religious policies since the People's Republic of China was established.     China always sticks to the principle of protecting ethnic minorities equal rights and safeguarding ethnic solidarity, and is firmly opposed to ethnic discrimination and oppression of any ethnic group as well as any activities aimed at undermining ethnic unity, it said.     China has always valued the role played by Islamic countries and attached great importance to its friendly relations with them, the report said, adding that such relations will be further cemented through joint efforts by both sides.

TAIYUAN, June 13 (Xinhua) -- "Terrorists" took over part of a police school in Taiyuan, the capital of northern Shanxi Province, late Friday night, and then, they attacked a number of other important and public targets in this north China city.     It ushered in a replica of antiterror battle as part of the "Great Wall-6" antiterror exercise in areas around Beijing, the national capital since last week.     A spokesman of the exercise headquarters told Xinhua that the drills in Taiyuan were aimed to test the abilities of the government and antiterror forces in dealing with a large-scaled terror attack on several targets, involving many people held hostages by the terrorists.
