Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is demanding the Federal Aviation Administration increase inspections of aircraft maintenance after his office reviewed agency records and found that enforcement and fines specifically for maintenance issues have dropped over the last several years.Schumer's office asserts that formal enforcement actions for airline maintenance issues decreased after 2014 and dropped dramatically in 2017. The data was compiled from the agency's quarterly reports on civil enforcement penalties, according to a statement from his office.The New York Democrat said the decline in maintenance enforcement raises serious concerns about whether the FAA is meeting its oversight mandates. Starbucks is exchanging its iconic green straws for recyclable strawless lids.The newer tops were modeled after the lids the coffee company has used on their hot drinks.They will have a drinking spout and contain about 9% "less plastic than the flat lid and straw historically used for iced beverages."“We developed and trialed several prototypes to arrive at this milestone,” said Andy Corlett, director of global packaging solutions and innovations, in a press release. “A recyclable, strawless lid becoming the standard for iced drinks is one small way we can give more than we take from the planet. SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) -- One man was arrested in Spring Valley Tuesday afternoon following a chase that led to a four-car crash. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the fugitive task force was following a parolee at large Tuesday afternoon. When they tried to pull the parolee over, he took off, leading a deputies on a chase. At some point during the chase, the man caused a four-vehicle crash near Gillespie Drive and Jamacha Road. The department says two people were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital. A deputy and K-9 were also involved in the crash, but managed to escape without injury.
