(KGTV) - The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit Friday against the Trump Administration for "forcibly separating asylum-seeking parents and young children."“Whether or not the Trump administration wants to call this a ‘policy,’ it certainly is engaged in a widespread practice of tearing children away from their parents" Lee Gelernt, deputy director of the ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights Project, said. A 2,000 foot-long floating pipe nicknamed Wilson is about to start its mission to collect all the plastic in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.Last month, the Ocean Cleanup foundation launched the world's first ocean cleanup system out of San Francisco to take on the notorious "Great Pacific Garbage Patch," a giant floating trash pile between San Francisco and Hawaii that is twice the size of Texas. It's the largest of five ocean trash piles on Earth.The pipe is set to arrive at its destination in the ocean on Tuesday and begin the cleanup process soon after, according to a company spokesperson.The pipe, which is in the shape of a U, features a 3-meter deep net underneath it to trap floating plastic under the water's surface. A boat will return to the spot every couple of months to remove the debris -- like a garbage truck for the ocean -- and return it to shore. (KGTV) - San Diego Congresswoman Susan Davis authored legislation that she believes would have a positive impact for military families who are struggling financially.H.R. 1078, called the Military Hunger Prevention Act, would make troops and their families eligible for food supplement benefits. Many families are not currently eligible for the assistance because their Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) is counted as income when determining eligibility for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). “Military families making great sacrifices in service of our country should not be struggling to put food on the table. I continue to work with my colleagues in Congress and push for the enactment of the Military Hunger Prevention Act. This bipartisan, common sense solution will ensure that we properly care for our men and women in uniform and their families,” said Rep.
