DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- China and Switzerland formally launched bilateral talks on a free trade agreement Friday.Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chinese Commerce Minister Cheng Deming said the agreement talks between China and Switzerland have attracted huge attention and interest from the countries' leadership and business communities.Cheng expected a successful conclusion of the FTA negotiations. Cheng said a free trade agreement would enhance mutual trust between the two sides and promote economic development and closer ties between China and Switzerland.Swiss Federal Councilor Johann Schneider-Ammann expressed similar aspirations for the agreement as did his Chinese counterpart."The free trade agreement would further enhance trade and investment relations on a mutually beneficial basis, but also create many new opportunities for close exchange and cooperation," Schneider-Ammann said.China and Switzerland have seen fast-growing bilateral trade and investments for decade. SAN FRANCISCO, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Web exploit toolkits, or " packaged" attack frameworks that can be traded online, are rapidly growing as the top cybercrime weapon due to ease of use and high success rate, a new report has found."When it comes to conducting online crime, exploit toolkits are the weapon of choice for many cyber criminals," said the "2010 Top Cyber Security Risks Report" published by Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) on Monday.The trend started in 2006 with the release of WebAttacker, considered by many to be the first modern day web exploit toolkit, according to the report.An emerging trend ensued and soon took off, and today the Internet is subjected to hundreds of exploits originating from these toolkits."With the ever-increasing, web-based criminal activity, the number of exploit toolkits has skyrocketed and shows no signs of slowing down," the report stated.Though protecting against attacks originated with web exploit toolkits is becoming increasingly difficult, there are ways to minimize the risk of infection, said the report, noting that one of the most effective defenses is to install patches onto host systems.The report also found that while the number of attacks against known vulnerabilities continues to rise, the number of discovered vulnerabilities has plateaued in 2010."We've discovered that rather than investing resources to uncover new exploits, attackers are focused on current, unpatched vulnerabilities in web applications, social networking sites and Web 2.0 interfaces," Mike Dausin, a manager at HP Digital Vaccine Labs, said in a statement.Data from the report showed that nearly half of all reported vulnerabilities exist in web applications, and third-party plug- ins to content management systems have become the leading cause of web application vulnerabilities.

BEIJING, April 12 (Xinhuanet) -- The elderly have a difficult time with multi-tasking as a study suggests that older brains behave differently when it comes to switching between two tasks, according to media reports on Tuesday.Researchers used functional magnetic resonance imaging (FMRI) to analyze brain activity in 20 people over age 60 by asking them to contemplate outdoor photos shown briefly. Then the elderly were presented with the picture of a face and asked to determine its gender and age, before being asked to recall details from the original scene they viewed.Researchers then compared their results to a similar experiment with 20 younger adults and found the brains of older subjects were less capable of disengaging from the interruption and reestablishing the neural connections necessary to switch back to focusing on the original memory."Unlike younger individuals, older adults failed to both disengage from the interruption and re-establish functional connections associated with the disrupted memory network," write Wesley C. Clapp of the University of California, San Francisco, and colleagues in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.The study, published in the online edition of the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, sheds new lights into a growing body of studies showing that one's ability to move from one task to another in quick succession becomes more difficult with age.

BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhua) -- China may see increased planting acre of early rice this year, though drought has not been relieved in some areas, said a statement on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture on Saturday.China is expected to plant 88.5 million Mu (5.87 million hectares) of early rice this year, about 1.6 million Mu more than the previous year, thanks to soaring rice prices and policy incentives, the statement said.However, drought continues in Hubei Province, Poyang Lake areas in Jiangxi Province, Dongting Lake areas in Hunan Province and Leizhou Peninsular in Guangdong Province, the statement said.The drought has affected about 3 million Mu of paddies in Hubei in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, the statement said.The statement urged local agricultural departments to help facilitate paddy management, as strong rains were forecast for southern China from Friday to next Tuesday.The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River received about 40 to 60 percent less rain this year than in previous years -- this year being the least amount of rain in the past 50 years, said the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.
