OAKLAND, Tenn. – A dog that recently turned 20 years old is believed to be the oldest living golden retriever in the world.The retriever, named August or “Augie,” lives in Oakland, Tennessee, with her owners, Jennifer and Steve Hetterscheidt.The Hetterscheidts adopted Augie when she was 14 from the Golden Retriever Rescue Southern Nevada, which Jennifer co-founded before retiring and moving to Tennessee.On April 24, the family celebrated Augie’s 20th birthday, a major milestone, because experts say the average golden retriever lives to be about 10 to 12 years old.They went all out for the celebration, giving Augie a special carrot cake and having a banner made to wish her a happy birthday. She was also surrounded by the family’s three other retrievers, whose ages range between 7 and 10.As Augie got older, Jennifer told the Today Show that she did a little research to see what the age was of the oldest golden retriever. She came across the GoldenHeart Golden Retriever Rescue’s website, which said the oldest was believed to be 19 years old. One volunteer Santa Claus might end up on the "naughty list" this Christmas as a 66-year-old New Jersey man who dresses up as Santa for the holidays was accused of possessing a crack pipe on Monday, WABC-TV reported. Charles Smith, of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, was charged with two counts of drug paraphernalia, WABC reported. South Hackensack Police Department Captain Robert Kaiser told WABC that Smith was found with a crack pipe and empty bags of crack and heroin.Smith was pulled over by law enforcement on Monday, and was arrested after officers spotted the crack pipe in plain view. Online shoe retailer Zappos will allow customers to buy just one shoe, or a pair of shoes in different sizes.The change, being tested this week on their website, is aimed at amputees, those with different-sized feet, and others who may have felt excluded by the shoe industry.It’s part of Zappos Adaptive, an initiative started in 2017 to “connect people with products that makes getting dressed easier for everyone” according to the company. (KGTV) — The pandemic is creating a serious budget crunch for the volunteer non-profit organizations that provide key funding and support city libraries across San Diego County.Gail Wells of the Friends of Oceanside Library says fundraising efforts have almost completely dried up. “We make ,000 a year on book sales. And we make ,000 on Farmer’s Market sales. We’ve lost that. We can’t have any book sales," says Wells.Other fundraisers have had to be canceled, as well. Wells says they have tried to get creative, including selling used books on Amazon and offering drive-through boxed book sales, where for , people can buy a box of books in a particular genre without knowing precisely what books they will receive. “A lot of people will say I don’t need a box of books. And we’ll say all you need to to get one book you like and it pays for your box of books. Sometimes it works," Wells said.The fundraising woes come at the worst possible time for Friends of the Oceanside Public Library because they are about to lose their office/sorting room. That’s because the city is tearing down the building to make way for a new fire station.
