BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo met here Monday with President of the National Assembly of Mali Dioncounda Traore and the two sides pledged to enhance parliamentary exchanges.Wu, chairman of China's National People's Congress Standing Committee, welcomed his counterpart at the Great Hall of People in Beijing.Wu said Mali was one of the first countries in Sub-Saharan Africa to establish diplomatic ties with China and bilateral relations between the two countries have endured various tests over the years.The sustainable development of bilateral ties has its basis in political mutual respect and mutual economic benefit, Wu said.He said Chinese President Hu Jintao's successful visit to Mali last year pushed bilateral relations to a new high.This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.Expressing hope to work with Mali to deepen friendship and expand cooperation, Wu said China's National People's Congress attaches great importance to exchanges with the Malian National Assembly.Traore said Mali and China have traditional friendship and Mali admires China's national solidarity, social harmony and rapid economic growth.Mali will further develop bilateral ties between the two countries and their parliaments, Traore said.He reiterated Mali's strict observance of the one-China policy. DALIAN, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Sunday called on the young in Russia and China to pass on the friendship forged during World War II.Medvedev made the call in a meeting Sunday morning with more than 20 veteran Chinese and Russian soldiers who participated in China's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945), part of WWII.The Russian leader, who arrived in the northeast China's port city of Dalian Sunday morning, first laid flowers at a monument commemorating Soviet Union war martyrs.In the following meeting with Chinese and Russian veterans, Medvedev said Russians and Chinese forged profound friendship in their joint fight against the Nazis, and such friendship constituted the solid foundation for the relationship between the two countries.The Russian President thanked Russian and Chinese veterans for their contributions to peace.He also thanked China for renovating the memorial, which was one of more than 70 memorials commemorating Soviet Union war martyrs throughout China. All those memorials had been refurbished to mark the 65th anniversary of the victory of WWII.Dalian was the first stop of Medvedev's three-day visit to China. This was also Medvedev's second state visit to the country since he assumed presidency in May 2008.Later Sunday, Medvedev flew to Beijing to continue his state visit to China.During his stay in Beijing, Medvedev will hold talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao and call on other Chinese leaders, including top legislator Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao.Medvedev will also travel to east China's metropolis of Shanghai, where, on the next day, he will meet with Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping and attend events marking the Russia Day at the ongoing World Expo, which runs from May 1 to Oct. 31.
BEIJING, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) - China's top economic planning agency Thursday urged authorities nationwide to step up supervision to stabilize prices in food, transportation and tourism during the upcoming holidays.Focus should be attached to cracking down on price rigging, including circulating misleading or false information about price hikes, commodity hoarding or forcing up prices of grain, cooking oil, meat, eggs and dairy products, said an official from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).The official also asked involved departments to ramp up measures to regulate prices of public transportation and in the tourism industries, while curbing arbitrary price hikes and irregular charges.Complaints and reports from the public will be accepted at hotline phone number "12358", said the official.This year's Mid-autumn Festival holiday is Sept. 22 to 24, and the National Day holiday lasts from Oct. 1 to 7.
BRUSSELS, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- China expected France to take new steps in pushing the European Union (EU) for positive policies toward China, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Monday.The relations between China and France were of important influence to China's links with the EU, said Wen during a meeting with French President Nicolas Sarkozy on the sidelines of an Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit in Brussels.China attached great importance to developing ties with France and appreciated France's willingness to enhance cooperation with China, said Wen.
