CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A South Bay family who discovered the body of their loved one buried in a backyard in Tijuana tells 10News there's now an arrest warrant for that woman's stepson. Fernanda Gonzalez went missing in Tijuana on February 2nd. Her sister, Erika Gonzalez, tells 10News Tijuana authorities issued the warrant for 20-year-old Aaron Seth Juarez wanted in connection with his stepmom's murder. The family's attorney, Jesus Rodolfo Cruz, tells 10News Fernanda's Jeep Grand Cherokee is still missing. The Jeep has California plates that read 6VXP431. Gonzalez first reported her sister missing in early February and posted on social media asking for help finding her. Gonzalez tells 10News each post had thousands of shares before she got a phone call that changed the course of the search, "somebody call me and said to keep looking for my sister because she was already dead and in the back of her yard".RELATED: Woman discovers her sister's body buried in Tijuana backyardAfter getting two calls saying the same thing, Gonzalez and her father went to Fernanda's home in Tijuana and searched the backyard, eventually finding Fernanda's body buried. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Chula Vista Police are searching for a suspect following a deadly stabbing in Chula Vista in mid-July.According to police, the stabbing happened on July 18 around 10:17 p.m. on the 200 block of Rancho Drive.Officers were called to the scene after receiving a report of a stabbing in the area. When police arrived, they found the victim, 23-year-old Ariel Burquez, suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.Police later determined that the victim and suspect, Raymond Lynde, 28, had an argument before Lynde reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Burquez several times.Chula Vista Police are currently trying to locate Lynde, who is on parole for an unrelated offense, police say.“A parole violation warrant has been issued for the murder of Burquez and Lynde should be considered armed and dangerous,” police said.Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or CVPD at 619-691-5151. 990

(KGTV) - A report says Chula Vista faces an immediate need for more police staffing to keep up with rapid growth, and that traffic congestion will worsen in the coming years.At a Special Meeting called for Thursday evening, the city’s Growth Management Oversight Commission (GMOC) is expected to present to the city council its review for fiscal year 2018, which includes recommendations on how to properly address issues directly caused by the city's progression.Chula Vista’s exponential growth over the past five years has led to a big increase in homes being built across Chula Vista. The city says “the number of residential building permits issued in Chula Vista averaged 1,008 units per calendar year” between 2013-2018. "This rate of growth is projected to continue or increase over the next five years, according to Chula Vista’s 2018 Residential Growth Forecast, updated in April 2019," the GMOC says. "With growth comes the demand for additional services and facilities."The GMOC warns that the Chula Vista's police department is not prepared to accommodate anticipated growth in the next 12-18 months or five years. It also addresses concerns that road congestion will get worse along Palomar Street given that improvements will take a half decade to complete.The GMOC’s annual reports, including the fiscal year 2018 report, “addresses compliance with delivery of services and facilities, based on threshold standards for the eleven service topics identified in the City’s Growth Management ordinance.”According to the GMOC’s report for 2018, four service topics are considered “not in compliance” with the city’s threshold and at risk of continuing to be non-compliant in the future: Libraries, Police [Priority 1], Police [Priority 2], and Traffic.POLICEWith the city’s continuing growth, the report shows there has not been enough police staffing to adequately respond to both emergency calls and urgent calls, as well as the volume of calls, thus leading to slower response times.The GMOC says the police department's response times for Urgent Calls for Service in fiscal year 2018 were calculated at 20:17, about 8 minutes and 17 seconds slower than the 12-minute threshold. 2222

(KGTV) -- A carjacking and pursuit led to a deadly officer-involved shooting in Chula Vista Monday evening.According to Chula Vista police, the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on the 900 block of Rutgers Avenue.Police say the incident began when officers spotted a suspect wanted for attempted murder and observed him as he carjacked a blue pickup truck at gunpoint near Main Street and Maxwell Road.The suspect, later identified as 33-year-old David Angulo, was a documented gang member wanted in connection with three shootings in the area and was considered a danger to the community by police.According to police, officers tried to conduct a traffic stop, but instead the suspect led officers on a chase into eastern Chula Vista. On Rutgers Avenue at Otay Lakes Road, the pickup truck crashed into a vehicle with a person inside. That individual was taken to the hospital with injuries believed to be serious.Following the crash, police say the suspect got out of the wreckage and tried to enter a house with a family inside. At some point, gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and officers. "It appears Mr. Angulo turned back to the officers. It's my understanding he pointed a weapon at the officers," Chula Vista police Lt. Dan Peak said. "It does appear some shots were fired at the officers and the officers returned fire."Peak added they're still investigating who fired the first shot.Chula Vista police say three officers fired their weapons, fatally injuring the suspect. Peak says medical aid was given to the suspect, but he died at the scene.The officers involved in the shooting haven't been identified at this time. (KGTV) - Southwestern College in Chula Vista was briefly put on lockdown Tuesday after a student reported hearing shots fired at the campus library.The student contacted officers about hearing two gunshots on the third floor of the library just before 1 p.m. at the college on 900 Otay Lakes Rd.Chula Vista Police responded to campus and evacuated the building, according to Southwestern officials. The campus was also placed on lockdown.After a thorough search of the library, police determined there was no threat in the building and nothing suspicious was found.The lockdown was lifted about 1:45 p.m. and all operations resumed as normal.Chula Vista Police said a construction project at the library may have been confused with gunfire.Watch Sky10 above campus: 793
