SIRTE, Libya, March 27 (Xinhua) -- China expects that the Arab summit in Libya can coordinate the inter-Arab relations and make achievements in the Palestinian cause, a senior Chinese diplomat said here on Saturday."We hope the Arab countries could coordinate internal relations and achieve positive results in reconciliation among Palestinian factions as well as the resumption of Palestinian-Israeli talks at the summit," said China's Special Envoy to Middle East Wu Sike in an interview with Xinhua on the sidelines of the 22nd Arab Summit in the Libyan city of Sirte.As a special representative of Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Wu attended the opening ceremony of the summit at the invitation of the Arab League Secretariat. He transmitted a letter of Chinese President Hu Jintao to the Arab leaders."I will convey a strong message of China that we attach great importance to relations with the Arab world, and wish to promote further developments of such relations in the future," Wu said.Wu said China and the Arab world have a long history of friendly relationship. ZHENGZHOU, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Indian President Pratibha Patil on Saturday visited an ancient Buddhist temple in central China that is believed to be the starting point for Buddhism's spread from India into China.Patil toured the White Horse Temple in Luoyang City, Henan Province, accompanied by the temple's abbot Shi Yinle, and inaugurated an Indian-style Buddhist hall as a gift to China.A Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD) emperor ordered the construction of the temple in honor of two Indian monks and horses that carried Buddhist scriptures and Buddha statues from India to the then capital Luoyang in 67 AD.During Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to India in 2005, the two countries agreed to build the Indian-style hall in the temple to commemorate the long history of bilateral ties.The 3,450-sq-m hall was funded by the Indian government and constructed by the Chinese side, the first of its kind outside of India.Wang Zhizhen, vice chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top political advisory body, also attended the inauguration ceremony.Following the visit, Patil left Henan for the ongoing World Expo in Shanghai, the last leg of her week-long state visit to China.During her visit, the two sides agreed to boost cultural exchange and people-to-people contact.

BEIJING, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Lending by Chinese banks may drop to 600 billion yuan (88 billion U.S. dollars) in May as the central government winds down its stimulus program and cools the property market to prevent the economy from overheating, the Shanghai Securities News reported Friday.A fall in bank lending in May is expected after the government introduced a raft of measures to curb the skyrocketing property market in April. The measures included a ban on lending for third home purchases and increased scrutiny of developers' financing, the report said.Lu Zhengwei, an economist at Industrial Bank, estimates Chinese banks' May lending will be 450 billion yuan to 650 billion yuan, compared with 774 billion yuan in April."China has asked banks to strictly control lending to industries with overcapacity and to stop lending to new projects not in the 4-trillion-yuan stimulus package. These will be major reasons for a drop off in May lending," he said.China's banks lent 3.37 trillion yuan in the first four months of the year, about 45 percent of the government's full-year 7.5-trillion-yuan lending target.The National Bureau of Statistics is due to release major economic data for May, including new bank lending, mid-June.
